Opinions Needed 6ppc

New 6ppc owner here and would really like your help. I picked up 100 Lapua .220 Russian brass, turned the necks and loaded them with Bart's bullets. I was not enthused with the idea of running 100 bullets through my barrel, just to form some brass. Then I learned that they can be hydro-formed by DJ Brass Service.
My first question is: Is it worth pulling the bullets and sending the brass to them, to save the barrel some wear?
Second question: What will I need to do to the newly formed brass, when they come back?
If I have left out any pertinent information, just ask for more details.
Thanks, Mike

Dj hydroformed some ppc cases for me and theyre great just load and shoot. On the other front why do you need to form all 100? Break the barrel in with 15-20, load those and foul with another 5-6 and start shooting the others you just formed. Before you know it youve got em all formed and been shooting formed brass too. Another popular option tell your gunsmith to send you a wore out fireform barrel.

Just fire form them through the barrel. It gets you trigger time and even coming back from hydro the brass won't be formed to your chamber for at least another firing. If you own the reamer or are using the same one for your next barrel your current barrel will be used for FFing any way. PPC's are a great addiction..... Welcome Aboard........Next get hold of James Lederer for a 30cal 17ish twist and have Mike Ezell chamber up a 30 Major for you ( necked up Grendel.....PPC bolt face ) then your barrel will last a min. of 4K. The bullets are a bit more but the grin factor is HUGE........Best of luck.

Regards
Rick

Lots of options here. Probably the best would be a fire form barrel, but DJ does a very good job or forming. I don't know your purpose, competition or just shooting for your own satisfaction, but you will probably find that the accuracy fireforming is very close to the final case. The POI will be different, but accuracy will be similar. If you choose this option you can use the load data for a 6 Beggs which is essentially a 220 Russian case neck to 243. 26grs of LT 32 with a 65-68gr bullet will shoot pretty well.

I have a “fireform barrel”. But to save wear I used 10 grains of Red Dot, filled the case with cornmeal, plugged the result with a dab of Alox bullet lube and shot them. Formed ok, not a perfect blowout but good enough.

The late Mickey Coleman told me to just fill the case with powder to the neck-shoulder, stuff a piece of tissue in it, hold the gun pointing up, and fire. The brass should pinch on the brass like an Ackley. Using a fire form barrel.

Thank you all for your opinions!
I will weigh each one and come to a decision.
You've given me plenty of good options!

the 6PPC bbl I am shooting now has been wonderful,,4 groove 13.5 twist Krieger chambered by Tim Claunch,,I started to use an old bbl to form cases with but decided against it,,I loaded 120 rounds with a caseful of H322 and a 68 gr FB bullet,,I shot those 15 at a time very slowly ,maybe one round ever 3 minutes or so over a couple days cleaning bbl ever 15 rounds,,
after that I worked up a load of LT32 and the 68 gr FB in about 50 rounds,,

first UBR match this year shot 494 then a 506 and then a 503,,,now after fireforming 120 cases and load work and shooting 3 matches the bbl has 475 rounds on it and is picking up no copper at all and carbon cleans out very easy,,

I have shot the exact same load from the 1st match when it was snowing and 27* till the last match in the high 80*s and muggy as all get out,,I do plan on shooting 3-4 groups in the 90*++ heat before going to the July 7 match,,figure I may have to back down from 28.6 to 28.4 or 28.2 even maybe in this heat,,

but I have really been shooting much better on match day skipping all the testing and practice between matches and it is really slowing the round count and hopefully I will make it all year on the one bbl,,even using it to fireform my 120 pieces of brass,,

Mine comes out to 21.5" barrel 14 twist using the barts 68gn flat base bullet running 3315-3328 fps. Bartlein barrel.
