Opinion of rifle of model row Marlin XL/XS and XLS/XSS.
Hi.
I see sufficiently a lot of positive reviews on the site of Gauze about these models Marlin XL/XS and XLS/XSS.
However much it is there is no information from considerable representatives which arrange the review of weapon.
Models Marlin XL/XS and XLS/XSS indeed so good or it is a not high-quality cheap commodity.
Objective Opinions, suggestions and information welcomed.
Thank you for an answer.

I have seen a few in my travels, though I have only seen them in factory form with the only modification being a scope has been mounted. I even tried 3 shots from one in .308, and it seemed to be a decent rifle. They appear to be very much a Savage knock-off, as the trigger is very similar to the accu-trigger, they use a barrel nut, and even the stock shape doesn't feel that far off nor does the shape of the action look to be very different.

The few I have seen fired will shoot close to MOA, maybe slightly more or less, but nothing to set the world on fire as far as superior accuracy. But nothing too shabby either. I would think it could be improved with a good handload, as all I have seen were firing factory fodder.

I believe I may have read somewhere that they accept the same barrel thread as a small shank Savage, though I would research that before you take my word for it, as I may be wrong.

For a low priced hunting rig, I think it would do very well. They have been accurate enough from what I have seen for most general hunting use, and Marlin makes some pretty nice rifles for their price point. I had actually considered one at one point, though I ended up with another Savage.

If you plat to modify the rifle or get into heavily accurizing it, you may be better off with a Savage, as there is a much larger supply of aftermarket components for Savage than the Marlin. But if it is to be left alone and used as a hunting rifle, than I don't think you would be that bad off going into the woods with one.

The salesman at the local Dick's Sporting Goods told me they have been flying off the gun rack for a good bit now, so they must be pretty decent or I doubt they would still be selling that well.

It depends on what you plan to hunt. Anything larger than deer and I would go with a .308.
The rifle itself will weigh about the same with either chambering.

They are light weight and very accurate. I have one in 25-06 that I play with quite a bit and it is hard to find a load that it shoots over an inch. Not a whole lot that will go under a half but between 1/2 and 1 inch is pretty respectable in my book for a 329.00 off the shelf rifle.

I've had this rifle for the past three years... Finally placed a Boyd's thumb-hole varminter stock which was an extreme upgrade from the plastic factory furniture...

i dont punch paper but with hand loads can keep the 12 inch gong ringing out to 600 yards reliably... I'm beginning to take it out beyond 600 while developing loads optimized for that range...

Love the rifle, especially for the price (sub $400)... My only problem is that i do get fliers on follow up shots. Cold bore its a tack driver, still trying to figure out why the strings have deviations!

FWIW...

Simpleba, see if your barrel is free floated or is the barrel channel touching somewhere when the rifle is on your rest. The plastic stocks flex quite a bit and when the barrel heats up things start to happen.

I love my XS7 I turned into a 6 Dasher. Shot another one in 243 Win that was sub moa out of the box with Winchester ammo. Barlow

With the Boyd's stock its totally free floated (I've checked)... I'm taking it to a gunsmith to check the bore just to make sure that isn't the problem. If nothing is found then the problem is likely due to "user interface" (i.e. me)...

I really like the Marlin X bolts. Factory Marin X rifles shoot really shoot really well out of the box. I purchased an X bolt 270 win for my brother and just fined tune the flaws it had. Loaded some 130 TSX's and will shoot sub moa at 100 yards. I told him the rifle will shoot, so he attempted to shoot 1000 yards for giggles ( first time too) and hit a 16"x 18" plate with first two shots. Most X bolts have crooked recoil lugs, so check to make sure its squared, trigger screws are tight, and bed the action.

My post is a repeat of some of the above...my wife has one in 25-06. It's killed a few deer and is a great "utility" gun. Shoots .75 @ 100 with minimal load development. She likes it so much, her Kimber that was later gifted to her sits in a safe, I think she's scared to scratch the "pretty" rifle.
