Opening a bolt on a Rem 700 6.8 SPC action to accept the new ARC rounds?

When the 224 Valkyrie was the new hot thing, I acquired a Remington 700 6.8 SPC action and screwed on a pre-fit barrel. After several years with the gun, the accuracy just doesn't impress me. I'm considering having the bolt opened to accept the new ARC or Grendel brass, but I'm curious if I'd be better off selling the action and just getting a new action set up for the PPC bolt face from the start?

Just my two cents but it's really never bad advice to go with a custom action. Resale value is about double and the initial cost is very close if you do the work needed on a factory action to bring it on par with a custom. There might be a reason why it has never impressed you as a 6.8 that could possibly be action related. Barrel, especially factory, is most likely but just saying, you do away with those questions with a custom, for the most part.

I love the grendel based wildcats. Been shooting a 6 Grendel for a long time now and it's impressive. Lapua brass makes it easy. A buddy and I talked about it before I guess, anyone else was doing their version of it. Was gonna call it a 6 EZ, Lol!

All correct.... but to the fair, the 224 Valkyrie is a total turd.

Those 6.8 actions aren't exactly common. You could very well sell it for close to what you paid. Or, you could rebate the rims on some brass to try it out. Only about .020" difference in diameter.

You can order them with several different extractors. Never sell your old bolt, NEVER! I used that as an excuse to build a whole new rifle. One of the big gun distributors, Virginia, Kentucky, WV had Remington stripped receivers no bolt for $220 and I had a bolt, got a lug, made a stock, had headspace gages. As soon as I get the shop cleaned up from all the junk thrown in it after the tornado, it will be a rifle.
