Open bolt indicators ??

The correct term for the devices pictured is "Empty Chamber Indicator" or "ECI" for short.
Two or three years ago, NRA decided this change was necessary because devices that simply held the bolt open did not ensure a round remained in the chamber. The "tail" on the ECI prevents insertion if such a condition exists.
A change to this effect was published by NRA, and sent to match directors of NRA sanctioned events.
Use of the term "Open Bolt Indicator" is no longer correct in NRA sanctioned events. If a match director or line official issues this command, they are,technically) issuing an invalid command - since the term "Open Bolt Indicator" was REMOVED from all NRA rulebooks,see above), and replaced by "Empty Chamber Indicator".

I give away at least 10 ECI's away each month. Although I still call them OBI's, it is an old dog new trick type of thing..
I think it is very important that all rifles on the practice range have ECI's in them..
All of our match shooters use them 100% of the time, it is our casual non competitive shooters that do not use them...
Everytime I see a shooter not using one I give him one...
