shoot straight....shoot often
Imagine if you only had one rifle for f-class....for 300-1000 yard competitions .....What caliber would you choose and why?
Hey Ray! The .300WSM is an awesome round. But the recoil and torque for 20+ shots in F-Open is disconcerting to many, if not most people. I have a friend who had one and it was very accurate. However, "recoil fatigue" set in and he dropped points. He has switched to a 7RSAUM with those new 195's and it performs at the same level as the .300WSM with 230's but with considerably less recoil. He states there is no noticeable difference in "felt recoil" from his previous Shehanes.I'm surprised the 300 wsm isn't more popular in F-Class.. The gun can shoot small and in the wind hands down can beat a Dasher in my opinion..

.... for the inherent accuracy....

The .308 would be my 2nd choice Joe! It too is an excellent round! By-the-way Joe, have you shot your .260A.I. yet?Whenever I see that phrase I cringe. It is an inherently false claim wrapped in pseudo expertise. I do agree on the other factors, but inherent accuracy is totally baseless. YMMV.
Well... the answer should be obvious, I guess about half of the F-Class shooters use it, .308.

Well Vince, I will give you my 2 cents>>>>but you already know what it is. Maybe it will spark more debate! That is a good thing! I love a .260A.I. It will COMFORTABLY drive a 140 class bullet to 2900-2950. We are talking within a hairs-breath of a 65. x 284. A scant half dozen years ago, the 6.5 x 284 was the KING of F-Open. A .284, or any of it's derivatives, are GREAT, with the proper loads at 1000! However, to me it has too much recoil, too much of everything for 300. It is great at 600 BUT I doubt you would notice any difference from a 2930f.p.s. 6.5 / 140 class bullet, except in the worst of wind conditions. At 1000 I have shot some of my best scores with my .260A.I. It is EXTREMELY accurate, easy to tune and has very little recoil and will give you about 1800 rounds of barrel life! It will do everything the 6.5 x 47 will do but at 100 f.p.s. faster. Brass is excellent and you don't have to trim but about once in 6 or so firings.
Hey Bob! I sure do not. However, call Kiff and tell him you want one that has a .295 neck with a .170 freebore. If you drop my name, he should still have mine on file, I don't know, but it is worth the asking. You will LOVE the .260A.I. It is NOT the greatest at 1000 yards, especially when the wind is acting up. But for 85 percent of all F-Open shooting, it is excellent!Ben, do you have a reamer print for your beloved 260AI?

Thanks Ben, I'll see what JGS can come up with!Hey Bob! I sure do not. However, call Kiff and tell him you want one that has a .295 neck with a .170 freebore. Yes Joe, I was there. It was my last match in Houston. Robert shot "my" fireforming load. It was 37.0grs of VV N150 with a 123 Scenar jammed about 15K. I think he would have done A LOT better had he ever used a NEO before! LOL!Shurley is making the stock now. My guess is I'm about 2 months away from brake-in. But I have high expectations.
You may recall that during our last 300 yard match Robert was fireforming his brass using some 123 grain bullets that he had around and still managed to post respectable scores. He hadn't even practiced with a rest. I loaned him my rest to use during the match.
