One of a Reloader’s Nightmares Come True (Not catastrophic)

Unpacking a welcome shipping box with some H4350 in it. Grab a one pounder by the lid…..you know where this is going….turned to put in the cabinet and the lid pops off. Bottle rotates in slow motion upside down as it falls with me screaming nooooooooo and hits the floor on the lip of the bottle. Contents from the now broken seal “explode” forth yonder and hither. After about 5 minutes of heaving and sobbing, I get down on the relatively clean hard floor with some cardstock and (thank goodness) a screen with the right sized holes allowing me to sift for foreign matter. I think I kept much of it uncontaminated to my satisfaction, but still a lot of spilled milk. Worst part is that I know better than do hold those darned bottles by the lid!

That's worse than filling the hopper on my RCBS Chargemaster, only to realize I still left the drain cover in the open position... Oops. I find a thin credit card works great too!

I have done that exactly twice now I do check the door the very first thing before I even pour any powder in it

Had a jug of orange juice that I held by the lid, when I was young. Once.

Have this useful habit, now, of first twisting the jar lid prior to grabbing it up there. Usually, I grab the jar two-handed. Out of general awareness that the jar "gods" are all watching for the right opportunity to strike.

Haven't yet had a 1lb jug of powder drop open, on me. Sheer dumb luck, I'm sure. All I can say is: I'm very thankful that 8lb jugs tend to have the nice little handle up top, built into the jug. Very thankful, indeed.

Condolences on the, um, blended powder you've now got. Sucks.

For a real challenge, just try and get several pounds of #8 shot out of one of those. There is not a vacuum cleaner made that will accomplish that.

Fortunately for me, I had a gifted and talented girlfriend at the time.

Last week, my wife grabbed a quart of olive oil by the top and dropped it on the kitchen floor. talk about hard to clean up.

Only took that happening 3 times before I got it in my head to close it when I empty the powder.

I used a red sharpie and made a mark on the valve to show when it is in the closed position.

I took it a bit further. I now have a large sticker on the hopper lid with "CLOSE HOPPER" in large letters and one next to the valve that says "CLOSE ME!". Still almost did it yesterday.
