One more try on a powder question

OK one more try here.

A friend offered to sell me WC 749 powder (that is the correct number) WC 749 Smokeless Rifle. He bought it off ammo seek and offered to sell me half. He claims it uses the same load data as Winchester 748 ( yes slightly different number).

I cannot find any information to prove or disprove this claim.

Please do not delete this all the numbers are correct just a 1 digit difference.

Well, just to confuse further - this from St Marks powder. I see they list an SMP849 for 7.62. Means nothing though. Try asking St Marks.

What powder is the same as win 748?


WW-748 is the same "spec" powder as military WC-846, which is also the same "spec" as Hodgdon Bl-C2.Feb 8, 2010

Is this powder in a Winchester package, or is it in another container?

WC-749 is not the “same” as any other powder. It is not the same “spec” (whatever that means) as BL-C(2) or H335 or W748. Without positive references from the maker I’d very careful with it - actually I’d not buy it - but the OP is free to do whatever he wants to do.

You absolutely cannot assume it uses the same load data as Winchester 748. The data on WC 749 (if that is indeed the real powder number), is virtually non-existent.

I don't want any more discussion of this here. The OP is advised to act with EXTREME Caution and certainly not to load it based on some kind of guesses.

He is also instructed NOT to start yet another thread now that this is locked.

Speculation about powders without verifiable and readily accessible data is highly dangerous and it will not be tolerated here.
