Onary little buggers

Went into the woods today to put up a ladder stand . Got the stand and ladder carried in . Sawed a sapling down with bow saw , drug it out of way and dropped it , yep , right on a yellow jackets nest , big one too .
Swarmed my hand , started popping me across a the back and head , put my arse in high gear .
Didn't know I could still run that far that fast .
After crossing the fence at least a hundred yards away , thought I was in the clear , crap ! They started buzzing my head and off I went again , finally got to the truck and got out of dodge .
This was about an hour ago and still stinging .
Been a spell since I got peppered like that . Suit me if I never get stung again . Onary little buggers .

I was weedeating and ran into a yeller jackets nest. Ran away from them right onto another nest. Ouch! Onary little buggers!

Last time I got into one I could count 22 stings on my head, neck, hands, arms... well, you get the idea.

Stand will probably be where you left it.

When I was about 10 years old we were at a friends cabin up in the mountains. We were walking down the road and I was kicking a soccer ball along. It rolled into a ditch and up a bank. When I went up to get it I must have stepped on a nest. They swarmed me and chased me down to road. Mom and dad kept yelling "stop and be still, they'll leave you alone". Every time I stopped they just took advantage of me not moving. I must have ran a half mile to get away or so it seemed. I had something like 95 bites on me, mostly on my back half. Mom ran into town and got calamine lotion. I was covered in it. Luckily I'm not allergic. Yes those little bastards suck!!

You should have ran & hugged up on 'em & see how long they stood still...

Not bad advise for an unprovoked bee; but when you stir the nest only thing that stops them is if they can't find you. The stinging hurts like hell but the worst part is the itching the next few days!

I think I stopped twice and they just swarmed me more. I think I could have set an Olympic running record that day. I can definitely say if you get swarmed by yellow jackets run like hell! They love a standing target.

This is one reason I won't dispatch a skunk. Skunks take care of 'em by tearing out their nests. I'd rather smell a skunk than get stung by a yellow jacket.

I had the same thing happen to me last year while clearing an area for a ladder stand. Father-in-law bush hogged the area and how they didn't sting him, I'll never know. I went back to move one sapling and they nailed me. I was trying to remove my shirt as I ran. They landed on my shirt and kept stinging me. Not a fun day.

Yellow Jackets, no problem. During a brushcutting session up behind the house yesterday I saw some movement right at my feet and glanced down just in time to see a Copperhead strike at my leg. Nice to know I can still move that fast, but I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't done it. I don't usually kill snakes (even venomous ones just get relocated) but this one made it personal.

Brush Cutter, 1 . . . Copperhead 0.

22 ? Holy mackerel , that's a pile of stings and itching , you are right about the itching and the location of the stand .
When I go back I'm going to have two cans of bee spray , one each in a double quick draw holster , I'll get em with the sun in their face and a Bull Durham cigarette in my mouth .
That'll teach em !

No doubt. And it wouldn't get put up by me until after a nighttime visit with a can of charcoal lighter fluid and a torch. I hate yellow jackets. Late summer and fall are the worst.

Can of Carb. cleaner and a inserted straw will work wonders on them. Better than the "flying insect killer" sprays for bees and hornets. Instant death.

Growing up, we had a IH Farmall C tractor that ran on butane/propane, tricycle front end and all. It was really weird, hit a bumble bee nest or yellow jacket nest, they would completely swarm the butane tank.

I don't remember ever once getting stung but I can remember that tank being completely covered with both bumble bees and yellow jackets several times.

Works damn good
I hit a paper wasp nest 4 nights in a row with brake cleaner I'm not 100% sure it doesn't just knock them out but they do drop like rocks.
I ran over a yellow jacket nest with push mower once had a dozen coming up pants leg. I poured gas down my leg ( it was close) it that got em off in a hurry. But presents its own dangers.

I was driving down the road one day and a swarm of bees flew into my truck, got stung bout 10 times didn't wreck though

My dad brush hogged over a yellow jacket nest several years ago. He throttled down to idle speed and froze in the seat. The majority of the yellow jackets attacked the only thing moving instead of him. The tires. My dad received about 5 stings.

Those yellow jackets are ruthless.. Kids had a tree fort in backyard with 1 limb had big hollow spot. Man, they built a hive almost 2 feet long and 8" deep/wide... I armed myself with a propane torch, and 3 cans of spray paint, while covered in thick sweatshirts and face mask, I roasted the whole colony. .
