Older Savage Triggers

How are the older, non Acutriggers? I am looking at older 110s that do not have Accutriggers. Can they be adjusted, or should they be replaced.

they had either 3 screw or 4 screw , I can’t remember now , butthe 4 screw was adjustable and Numrich has them in nitride or someother slippery coating . They were on older 308 hb target versions . I’m not sure if there’s an aftermarket trigger available. I’m working on a double set trigger for them . It was a design I purchased here on the forum . Lots of work and redesign, still in the testing stage .
My problem with savage trigger design is that most triggers require the use of the original sear . On most other aftermarket triggers you get have both the trigger and sear . Even my double set trigger requires the original sear .
I hope I didn’t confuse you and I hope I answered your questions.
Most important, I forgot to ask how old is your savage?

I have a savage edge, its an axis type with out the accutrigger. I got an mcarbo spring kit. Man it made a world of difference. It should work in a 110 model i would think

I have an older Savage model 10, pre accutrigger. I replaced with an after market unit. Best trigger of all of my rifles. Adjustable and it is set to break under a pound currently. Unfortunately I don't remember who makes it

They are adjustable, with a little patience you can smooth them out and make a nice trigger.
It is too long to explain here, but if you go here, there used to be a couple of tutorials on how to do them. https://www.savageshooters.com/forum.php
I agree with this post 100%. Depending on what it is to be used for, any Savage trigger can be tuned to acceptable performance. Hunting, casual target shooting, banging steel, just about anything. Competitive Bench Rest Shooting, not so much.

Your factory trigger has some adjustments in it. If you know what your doing 2ish pounds should be safely doable. If you want less pull then go with a rifle basix.

I had extremely good luck with the old Sharpshooter replacement trigger, but it is no longer made. Have not found a suitable replacement for older pre-Accutrigger Savages.
@Ggmac please keep me in the loop on your progress!

Thanks for all of the replies. I want to purchase a used 110 in .30/06 and make it a switch barrel rifle to try different calibers. First I have to find a rifle!

I have a 300winmag mod 111 with the non-accutrigger and I tuned it down to 1.5 lbs.
This older 300winmag model 111 action has the smoothest bolt I've ever felt. Comparable to high end actions. You can get the bolt sliding a little forward by blowing air on it !!!
P.S.... I never lube my bolt bodies and only if I remember, every few years I lightly lube the rear of the bolt lugs.

You have to know what you're doing with the fine honing stones, and I used part of a safety pin to replace the original trigger tension wire.

After I tuned the trigger I was surprised on how beautiful and smooth it broke each shot.

That trigger and a Timney Calvin Elite 2-Stage trigger on my Rem700 are my favorite triggers out of all the other rifles/triggers I own.

This 300wimmag I could not get anything to group consistently sub moa, until I loaded some 130 gr TTSX, jumped them a mile to the lands with a MAX charge of IMR-7828ssc at an average of 3,525 fps. Consistent 1/2 to 3/4 moa. I only have a little over 1 Lb left of IMR-7828ssc left but this load is only for deer so I may have a decent point blank range.

Also have another non-accutrigger 243win mod 11.... but I changed the trigger out and installed a Timney.

Basically did the same to a M-111 in .270 Win. Light fine stone work and polishing, made a new copy of the tension trigger spring using .042 stainless spring steel wire. Turned that into a very nice 2# trigger.
Had to buy a spool of that wire from Fastenal, it was cheap, but I have enough for 5 lifetimes now. LOL
