How are the older, non Acutriggers? I am looking at older 110s that do not have Accutriggers. Can they be adjusted, or should they be replaced.
I agree with this post 100%. Depending on what it is to be used for, any Savage trigger can be tuned to acceptable performance. Hunting, casual target shooting, banging steel, just about anything. Competitive Bench Rest Shooting, not so much. They are adjustable, with a little patience you can smooth them out and make a nice trigger.
It is too long to explain here, but if you go here, there used to be a couple of tutorials on how to do them. https://www.savageshooters.com/forum.php
Basically did the same to a M-111 in .270 Win. Light fine stone work and polishing, made a new copy of the tension trigger spring using .042 stainless spring steel wire. Turned that into a very nice 2# trigger.I have a 300winmag mod 111 with the non-accutrigger and I tuned it down to 1.5 lbs.
This older 300winmag model 111 action has the smoothest bolt I've ever felt. Comparable to high end actions. You can get the bolt sliding a little forward by blowing air on it !!!
P.S.... I never lube my bolt bodies and only if I remember, every few years I lightly lube the rear of the bolt lugs.
You have to know what you're doing with the fine honing stones, and I used part of a safety pin to replace the original trigger tension wire.
After I tuned the trigger I was surprised on how beautiful and smooth it broke each shot.
That trigger and a Timney Calvin Elite 2-Stage trigger on my Rem700 are my favorite triggers out of all the other rifles/triggers I own.
This 300wimmag I could not get anything to group consistently sub moa, until I loaded some 130 gr TTSX, jumped them a mile to the lands with a MAX charge of IMR-7828ssc at an average of 3,525 fps. Consistent 1/2 to 3/4 moa. I only have a little over 1 Lb left of IMR-7828ssc left but this load is only for deer so I may have a decent point blank range.
Also have another non-accutrigger 243win mod 11.... but I changed the trigger out and installed a Timney.
Yes sir. I put one 1 on a Savage trigger years back that was 0.037.Make the spring from a spinner bait, or a piece of music wire. (think piano).
Again look it up on savage shooters forum.
