Old Timers; Did anyone use the Mercury Outboard Carb. Tune

I had a couple of nice guns in the 80's and everyone thought we should use the Mercury outboard motor carb. tuner or engine tune for the solvent? I remember the name of it started with a "K" something. I wonder what happened to that? Also what is the favorite bench rest shooters solvent these days? Need to know the secrets here. Not secrets but knowledge from the guys that know what they are doing.

Butchs bore shine. Pro shot patches and bronze bore brushes keep the most accurate guns in the world clean inbetween matches. No witches brew and no long soaks needed

You talking about quickleen?
I’ve tried it. It’s about the same as any of the better carbon getters, still had to scrub to get rid of the carbon.

I don't think they make it anymore the new stuff is Mercury Power Tune for carbon. I think GM discontinued TEC (Top engine cleaner) carbon remover. I've used TEC in the past and it dissolved hard carbon, but it needed to be used outdoors.

The local Subaru service manager gives me a bag of their upper engine cleaner whenever i ask for it as he's amused that anybody would use it on rifles. Cleans as well as Butch's for me & marginally better on economy. ;)

Over here if you asked a subaru dealer for top engine cleaner for an evil gun they would call the cops that a madman with guns has invaded a safe space.

I've become a Gunslick Foaming Bore cleaner fan. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000U3Z5TI/?tag=accuratescom-20 Works great! Let it sit a while and patch it out. Even the most heavily coppered up barrel comes clean quickly. I use a borescope camera to verify, so if the camera says it's clean, that's good enough for me.
Myself also , especially for cleaning automatic pistol barrels.... Just foam up while you clean the rest of the pistol and done...

Try some seafoam it is as good as the Merk. -K stuff. Tommy Mc have a 225 merk Black Max. Plugs shine no buildup..

I used to use the Quicksilver and it really worked. I make my own bore cleaner and have for about 25 years. I still have a pretty good supply of the old GM TEC top engine cleaner. I mix a gallon at a time with white ammonia and Kroil.
