Old Tasco Varmint scope questions

So I picked up a Wycliffe 76 rifle today. It came with a very old Japanese made Tasco Varmint range finding scope on it. For the life of me, I can not figure out how on earth you would adjust the elevation. There are not numbers or even hash marks. The turrets are simply marked with numbers 100-500 with red lines in between. There is no way that I can see to reset the turrets to the 100 mark ( I assume that would be for the 100 yards zero.
Close to the ocular end, the scope is marked with a range finder that corresponds to the magnification ( the higher the magnification, the further the ranging distance I assume.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

I believe the knurled knob on top off the turrets locks the bottom ring
You Sir are correct. I finally was able to loosen the top knob. I was a bit remise to use force, but a little force was enough to loosen the top cap. Oddly enough, this old scope has a zero stop feature under the cap and ring

I have a couple of those Tasco TR scopes. They are excellent! My first 18x came with only one elevation ring - but it was for 222 with 55g = exactly what I was shooting. I believe that they came with 4 or 5 and the chart showing what each was designed for. I picked up a 24x last year, but it's still in the cupboard, waiting on a suitable 223 and that has 3 rings with it.

Thank you for the information. This one is attached to a Wycliffe 76 rifle in 22 Hornet that I picked up today. I'm going to guess that the elevation ring is probably from whatever rifle it came off last.

I had the Bushnell version of one of these "BDC rangefinder" scopes waayyy back in the seventies. Believe it was called Bushnell Sportview.

Technique was to put the proper drum on the elevation turret, which corresponds with the trajectory of the cartridge you're using. Use the scopes variable power adjustment to magnify the body of the critter to fit between the horizontal crosshairs and read the range from the power ring. Transfer that reading to your elevation knob, and -- shoot with confidence.

I did in fact use mine to kill a desert buck at 500 + yards one time - with a 243 no less. (I wouldn't recommend this) jd

Yep...still have one but lost the chart that supposedly loosely told you what drum to use for each caliber/cartridge combo. Not bad scopes for their day.
