Old Shooter, new game

Been a life long shooter, handloader, and long time lurker on this site. This week I received my first purpose built long range rifle from Alex Wheeler, a 6BRA. Planning on competing in 2018. Spent my working career as a tool and die maker/machinist, which worked well with my love of hand loading. Through out my life I have been an avid hunter, that always loved trips to the range. If it fires a projectile I have shot it; sling shot, bow, pistol, shotgun, and rifle. Learning and improving my skills and my equipment has always been goals. Rifles has always been my main focus. My great uncles were custom gun makers and wild cat shooters since the 1930's. As a young shooter, they were my mentors. Always enjoy my visits to their Montrose Co shop, where I fully bought in to their shooting beliefs. This launched on my personal journey of marksmanship and tinkering with my own guns and handloads. Most of my friends are also shooters and reloaders, but I was always on an anal retentive journey to improve. Got be a big fish in a small pond. Fully intended to shoot short range benchrest, only to find that it had died in my area. Through this forum, I learned about 600 yard shoots in my area, at Columbus Shooters Asso. Observing my first shoot, I learned that I had found a home or any way group of people, that are as anal about their craft as I am. My adventure out into the ocean is just beginning and am looking forward to a heck of an adventure.

Welcome to the club and the forum! " Anal retention" is a prerequisite, here. At least until somebody looses thier temper.;)

A minute dash of "OCD" helps. Welcome and enjoy. I gained tons of knowledge from this site. I think its the best.

Not here to argue or pick fights, just learn and contribute in a small way. Yes lots of great information here. When I retired during the great primer shortage (2009) I got on Handloaders Bench. I learned a ton, great people over there. Now I am going in a more focused direction, also due changes in the site, I was no longer able to log on. I do miss those people. Live my life with respect for others and enjoy sharing information that pushes us in a positive direction. Have personally done business with Alex Wheeler (gives straight foreword answers to my questions and the reason he built my rifle) and have met several other site members at shoots. Am in the habit of reading Alex's and James Mock's posts, with great interest. Back in the day, I read Precision Shooting magazine and miss it. Built and bought a couple of rifles from Bob White, another fine person to do business with. When I retired, I wanted to live my dream. Hunting, fishing, and target shooting and related stuff. Thankfully, I am doing that.

Sir, I'm also retired and in June of this year, after emails and phone calls to Alex Wheeler, I decided to have him build, what some of us at Manatee Gun Club refer to as, "Wheeler's Wonder Gun!" My second event Nov. 25th at Manatee, I was lucky enough to win one of the four trophies. I feel very lucky as I think the gun is more accurate than my ability to aim it! There is a wealth of information on this site provided by many good American men. I wish you good luck and a lot of fun with your new "Wonder Gun" when it arrives. I can tell you it's worth the wait! RJ

I have a March 10x60 scope, the older version, not the High Master. The rifle has a Wheeler stock, 1 in 8 Krieger barrel, Bat action, and a Bix and Andy trigger. In competition, I plan on shooting Vaportrail bullets As for pictures, I would like to, but I am kind of low on the computer savvy scale. Had to have my sons sent me up with a new email and help me with my account here at Accurate Shooter. In the future I will post some. Need to pick a color and paint the stock. Blue metal flake has been my go to color in the past, but I want a change. Will need to pay a visit to the body shop supply store. Several custom car colors appeal to me, but one just has not called my name. I live in the land of cheese and winter shooting can be tough. Got my brass prepped and ready for fire forming, but before I shoot the rifle, I need to get a bore guide and a longer cleaning rod.

It seems as though you have elected to go with first rate equipment and a first rate 'smith. Good luck....you should do well. James

Good luck with your rig!

One place to start on "Blue metal flake" is the Metalflake website.Look at their offerings..... lots of nice eye candy.

Edit to add;Jackson, look up the term..."qualifier" as it applies to color.
