Old School fun

Ok, I will ask...what is the difference between eurasian pigeon and the common blue/white/brown flying fertilizer machine that inhabit every barn around here?

I suppose I should consult wikipedia or something before spewing out info but I'm lazy tonight.

From memory (sometimes foggy) the woodchuck is a member of the squirrel family and not a rodent. And they are one of the few animals that truly hibernate (bears are not true hibernators), with their heartbeat slowing down to 1 or 2 beats per minute.

I don't know how many of you guys have been raised on a farm but believe me a chicken is the dirtiest creature on earth in my opinion. I won't go into the things they do, it might ruin your dinner. Do I eat chickens, definitely, like everyone else on the planet.
I was raised to appreciate what the Lord put here to feed us and not turn up my nose at it unless I truly didn't like it. I can't say I have always followed that advise though!
I have never turned down anything (to at least try), EXCEPT a oriental dish called "Kimshi", to me it is absolutely disgusting just to smell it. However I don't belittle them for liking it, just don't want to be around when they eat it, LOLAL!

Good recap snert, thanks for sharing.

Not going to lie, it made me a bit jealous and methinks I need to get my butt off the couch one of these weekends. ;)

Bill, I think the Prairie dog is more of the squirrel family and what us easterners call the Woodchuck is more of a rodent.. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong so be easy on me..

Jon and Bill are correct. The groundhog, or woodchuck, is one of 14 species of marmots. Groundhogs are the largest members of the squirrel family. Although they are usually seen on the ground, they can climb trees and are also capable swimmers.

All squirrels (Family Sciuridae) are rodents (Order Rodentia). Rodentia contains about 30 families and is by far the most speciose order of living mammals.

And I still want to know about them your-asian doves or whatever they are! ???

I will have the teenager figure out how to post a photo and toss up a few from the last "hunt".

Long day at work, as i understand it the Eurasian doves blew over from the the Caribbean in a hurricane ** not a scientific fact just the local explanation for how they spread to Idaho** They are listed in the upland game book as a non game species that is out competing the limited supply of mourning doves. Unlike the more common pigeon/ rock dove/ squab which is a gamy dark meat the Eurasian dove is a white meat that goes very well with bacon, teriyaki, and a slice of jalapeno. around here they tend to fall off the power lines right after the pellet gun goes off. Yes i am in town. I have heard them called Jamaican doves and ringneck doves also. There was a picture in last years fish and game regs to help people tell the difference.

Kimchi, like a good home cured souerkraut with an asian twist. Very healthy and with the right spices quite tasty. But it ( both) must be traditionaly prepared not the crap in the can from the grocery store.

Woodchuck feces is mostly grass remains anyways.I don't see anything wrong with eating marmots whatsoever. It is just what we have been told as young children and develop bias towards anyone eating something you have been taught as being disgusting. Any grass eater is edible and probably better for you than purdue.

You Sir are exactly right.

Just returned from WY pdog'n.. what a blast. This year we saw a lot of doves and a fair number of Euraisian doves at this ranch. I also saw Eurasian doves in the small town.. next year I'll take a shot gun and pellet rifle..

For those that wanted to see a picture, hear you go. I had never seen one either.

That is the one, I have been trying to shoot one all weekend so i could take a picture with bacon and jalapeno but they won't land on the power lines near my house. Also they tend to stick around all winter instead of flying south like a mourning dove.
