Old Redfield Bases/Rings

I have looked at an old Mauser 98 Sporter that has a one piece base and rings. At least one of the rings is narrow. I am not sure about the second one. I would not want to buy it if I could not put more modern Redfield Rings on it, or at least find a more modern Redfield base with the same screw spacing/location to go on it. Does anyone know anything about this older Redfield hardware?

Thanks,

Danny

Need a pic , old red field rings were squarish but still the same mounting IF it has 2 large wind age screws in the back . Pm me for email
Gary
Ps if the rings are 3/4 " they can be worth some money .

Thanks for the help. I started shooting in the mid 70s, and this era of Redfield Rings and Bases have a vintage look that comes prior to when I was shooting. I don't know if they are from the 50s, but I would say probably the 60s and maybe the early 70s. These rings are kind of squarish as you mention, and the rear one is narrower front to back. They certainly do not look like the style of rings I am familiar with up to the time that Redfield in Denver got shut down.

While I do mention that their styling is different, they are essentially the same system that was used up to the time of the plant closing in that the front is a rotary dovetail and the rear is windage adjustable by opposing screws as we are used to.

I found a closed ebay auction for what I am pretty sure is the same ring setup, but I would have to go to the shop and look at the rifle and auction pictures to be certain.

Look at the "Vintage" rings that closed at $50.00

While I see and mention that these rings follow the basic style of the newest of the rings made just before the plant closure, I do not know if they all interchange, especially when seeing that one ring is a lot narrower.

Red field , leupold , millet , will all fit the base . What kind of Mauser is it ? I've got a more than a few ( hundred ) yup , 787 to be exact . I love mausers . Can't you tell .
Good luck
And the 3/4 " rings would go for about $200 , they were used on 1903A4 sniper rifles . They are the squarish ones not the more modern (1970s) round style .

Oh , I forgot . The reason for the wider ring is that the dovetail ring is the only one that takes the recoil , the rear adjustable ring can't take much if any at all .

Gary,
I could not tell what kind of Mauser, other than that it is a military 98 that has been fully sporterized. It has the Redfield bases and rings, with a vintage scope mounted. The base hides any crest that might be there. All that I could see on the left side of the front ring were two letters, possibly RP, but I would not swear on that now. Whatever they were, I got Google searches coming up pointing to FN Belgium, I believe. It has what I think was a Buehler Safety, forged or replaced bolt handle and has been rebarreled with a sporter weight barrel in .220 Swift. The stock is very basic Walnut Sporter replacement with no checkering.
