Old Primers

I have a bunch from the FIL. All kinds of S&W sp and sr. Plus close to 3K sr Win stainless primers. Plus a bunch of the small 209 style Remington primers.

I win I've got some Oldies ; $ 0.46 , sorry you can't see the sticker it turned to near dust when I just touched it .:)
Doc. l have some of those Winchester trays. They are made of wood too.
l have a brick of Super Vel small pistol primers from Shelbeyville lndiana.
l have another brick of ''Alcan MAX-FIRE'' small rifle primers. Alcan Co., Inc.
Alton, Illinois. They appear to be really old. No zipcode in the Alton Illinois address.
There's a rather well preserved store sticker from ''Boscov's''.
Anyone know where BOSCOV'S is??

Here are some of my older primers. The Remington, Winchester and old CCI box is probably from the late 60's. I only have a couple hundred each of them. The CCI BR2's are from the late 70's...maybe early 80's.

The Herter's (I still have almost 7K of them) are from the early 60's. I still use a lot of them and am very satisfied. I decided to do a test (not very scientific as I only did one caliber) on a known .270 Win load. I ran two five shot strings with identical powder charges and bullets. Seating depth was identical as was the brass used. Shot both groups out of a Ruger #1. I used modern CCI BR2's (probably 2015) and the Herter's primers. The BR primers shot a group of 0.44" and the Herter's came in at 0.52". Both quite good and the best combo I have found for that rifle.

I have a box of unmarked mercuric corrosive primers out in My container . Got them along with a whole bunch of reloading equipment shells & shot a couple of guns , maybe 40-45 years ago ?. I bought a storage garage's content as the owner never responded to any of the delinquency notices for rent due . So owner of storage garages auctioned off those garages . They would open said garage allow you to look inside but NOT go into them ,until You won the bid . Anyway there was all kinds of loading presses and boxes of empty hulls ,so no one else was interested and I snatched it . I sold most of the equipment made #7-10 times My money back and kept other goodies .

I'll try to find those primers and take a photo I'm thinking WWl era . Meantime while scrounging inside ,I came across these in one of My old ammo labeled primer cans . Surprise Surprise I've got nearly a full 50 Cal. can of them !.

Does anyone know Federals manufacturing date code ?. They're in wooden trays .

OK : IF I'm understanding what the Federal Tech told Me ,this is the date coding ;

A shift or Division , March 14 Th. 1952 as coding is read backwards .

Enjoy seeing the old packaging. I have bricks of many of the same primer packages shown. I bought them at auctions and estate sales over the past 20 years. I have a brick of Herter's 6 1/2 primers that are marked "Made in Japan".

Guess I've been hoarding primers for awhile now. So far all going bang just fine.

Should have bought a truck full back then.

If I go down to the loading room where I keep most of my primers I’d bet I can find $450/1000
