Old (older) folks dying off.

Got a message from my second cousins daughter this past Saturday. He is in the hospital and diagnosed with a brain tumor that is causing weakness on his left side. He and I talked today at length. He is scheduled for a biopsy on the tumor next week. He is 73 and I am 74, we grew up in WV together, dated the same girls, drag raced and worked on cars together, fished and shot our .22's together. I am closer to him than any one I know. You never know what tomorrow will bring or when it will be your turn to experience a drastic change in your own life. Let your friends know how important they are to you.

Good reminder for us all to check up on friends. Also we need to figure out who we are going to give our weapons to when the the time comes. We also need to be teaching our younger family members how to reload so we can pass this skill on.

Always remember to tell your friends and relatives that you love them...Even the ones that are on a short leash. I was raised by my grandmother and some of her children. There is a whole bunch of them that I never told them that I loved all of them, while they were alive. That mistake on my part has been a heavy burden for a long time.

I can think of more co workers and friends who have passed than alive. I've retired twice,each time to move, and am back to work w/o SS penalty. So for those near Lewis county Kentucky,I'm in need of a hunting/ fishing buddy or two.
Things happen quick...I had a shipmate that we got to flyfish the rogue a couple times, a call one morning ..he had a massive heart attack and was gone. I made the trip to the veterans cemetery at eagle point and placed a dime on his coffin.....fair winds and following seas Larry.

What really bothers me is that the older I get the less religious I become. Supposedly it should be the opposite as my day of reckoning comes closer. Perhaps my training as a scientist, my observations of nature, and my wife's amateur interest in astronomy and the vastness of the universe. There are hundreds of different religions in the world and I have come to the realization that all but one of them is completely wrong. And everyone I talk to tells me theirs is the right one.

We frequently learn of the deaths of very long-time friends
as well as others and it always makes us wish we'd kept in
closer contact.

When I pause to take stock of the situation, I realize that
statistically I'm dead----I've somehow beat the odds while
having a very good life.

I urge everyone to maintain their contacts as long as possible.
There is no friend like an old friend.
