Old ammo

A j shooter

Shoot often
I come across some old military ammo 30-06 head stamp. Is DM. 42
Can any of you tell about this ammo. Is it worth any thing .

Hi Neighbor, rule of thumb in the 60's when we were shooting High Power was most military ball 30-06 before 1952 had mercuric primers that were corrosive. The .30 carbine ammo on the other hand never used them, don't know about the .45 ACP. Hope this helps,JF

The head stamp DM42 in my belief would stand for Denver Match made in 1942. It will be loaded with corrisive primers and a match load of 4831 powder. They would have been used for the National matches and in the 03's were very acccurate. They could very well have been used in the early sniper rifles also. I would not use them in a good modern barrel. The brass could be worked over and used , alabet lots of work removing bullets and primers and swageing the primer pockets. Now by chance they were made with double flash holes for berden primers they would be useless. When I first started reloading back when I was a very young man I used Denver 43 brass exclusively, it was very good brass.
