Okay guys I need your help with a new build.

Okay here is the deal. I'm looking to build a 6BR on a custom action. Something along the lines of a Defiant or Stiller but I'm open to others. This is going to be a groundhog, long range Varmint rifle that I need to be able to shoot off a bipod. I'm set on a single shot action.

Number one: What action are you guys having the best luck with?

Number two: What stalk are you guys running shooting from field positions?

I think I have the rest figured out. I'm going to have Mark Penrod build it. But I need to start getting the parts around.

I just built it.. ( well actually my friend did the work) and the first few groups are really good.. I'm taking it to SD in 3 weeks. So I'll know more then.
Barrel is a Shilen..

Jim Borden Alpine action.

I like wood stocks, something around the McMillan A3 style.

A Hart LRT can be had on the cheap, if going with a Rem. 700 footprint action.

Phil.

I have two rifles built on Stiller actions and really like them both. A 221FB on a Predator and a 220 Swift on a TAC-30.

First off, I like Little boy's response on the Haverkamp. For those not familiar, you're missing out. Very nice action and the owner is a true gentleman. And they are made in Indiana.

Now for the stock, Mark Penrod would be by far the best person to discuss this with. He is a customer oriented person, and he will know what will work best for your intended use and his work. JME. WD

I will stop by Marks and talk to him about stocks next week. I'm fortunate to live close. I'm my personal opinion there isn't a better craftsman out there. His rifles are definitely a work of art. I will looking the Haverkamp I've never heard of them and if I can buy a quality action locally I surely will.

I have a Borden Alpine .308 short action that will be arriving very soon. IF you want BR tolerances I have an SSR (SA - Borden Bumps) that isn't spoken for yet. Give me a call if you want to discuss

Good idea Mark will do a great job for you and he likes a Haverkamp
