OK..... what caliber is next?

22vartag, your handle leads me to believe you were a Todd Kinder disciple, I was too. I am considering going from 17 to 20 caliber, in hopes of finding a better selection of quality bullets.

If you've got a 20 Vartarg, then you're set for the 20 cal. It's the best there is :D.

Another perhaps obscure option: what about a 22 squirrel?

Have have a few AR-15 in 223/5.56, but want to stay with a bolt action and want much better accuracy than I have seen with what I have. I ha be thought about a 6mm BR, but like the low recoil of the 22’s.

22-204, 222 Rem Mag Improved with NO fireforming, just load and shoot. I've been shooting one since 2006.

If you want another 20 I’d go with the Practical with at least an 11 twist because of the ease of getting brass and forming and if you want some distance I love the 22BR and 6BR and study twists for versatility with each of them . The twist always alows you to choose the bullet and distance you want it to perform best with/at.

Seeing how you want low recoil and high accuracy to 500 yards for target work, I'd tend to skip the mild 20's and 22's. You have good range in the Valkyrie, Creedmore and 22/250, though, when it comes to keeping barrel heat low, keeping recoil down, etc. - I'm thinking you might want to look at going to a low-recoil 6MM that will give you all new smiles if you haven't already gone there- 6BR or maybe even a 6mm ARC. With a target-weight barrel, these are pretty darn tame

A Calhoon .19 Badger. This is the one based on the .30 Carbine case. They claim it will launch a 28 grain bullet at 3725 fps.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and thoughts. I guess I will look at 22 BR or 222 REM as possible projects. Still hard to pass on 221 Fireball since I like the 20 VarTarg so much (have 3 now).

No love on the 22-06, eh??
Not something you see at band camp often! Lol
Haha, for me that's just too much powder for the speed it gives. 22 creedmoor / 22-250 AI always seemed like the turning point where you're burning a lot of powder and not getting much velocity for it. The fact that my 22 BR goes as fast as my 22-250 did (stronger brass, I think) put the nail in the coffin of big 22s for me.

I hadda ask!
Like i said, not something you see often.
Has me curious, but not to the point of buying it, just to find a load, and have to put a new barrel on it.

If you don't know what chambering is next You need to research ,look , learn and listen till there is no doubt in your mind, you just have to have ______.
