Ok got a question on my set up

Here we go lol. I have a 7 mm wsm shooting a 168 berger vld with a 30" krieger and a nightforce br 12x42-56. Using h1000 and shooting at a velocity of 3141 fPS. I have burris xtr sig ring with a minus 20 on bottom and a +20 on top in the rear of scope and a ferrel 20 moa base. My scope has 40moa total adjustment so if you take the 20 off for the base and 20 off for the rings i should be at the bottom of my scope adjustment right? But I'm not at 100 yds I'm 10moa off the bottom. Cant figure out why. Sorry its so long of a question didnt know how to make it simpler

It would seem to me that there are a lot of possible reasons, but I'm wondering if you have the inserts in the wrong positions for the rear ring.

To get "shoot higher" by putting offsets in the rear, the thick one goes on the bottom.

30moa available elevation will get you a fair ways beyond 1000 yards with that cartridge. Even a Palma load (.308/155s) will make 1000 with 30 moa up from a 100 yd. zero. If you need more, try a 30mm tubed scope.

Keith nailed it. You have your rear ring inserts reversed. Beyond that in order to calculate their effect in MOA you have to do some math. To do that you need to know the center to center spacing of the rings.

The nightforce br is a 30mm tube. I thought if the thin insert was on bottom it will cant the scope up their for you would tilt the barrel down giving more adjustment up?

You better hope the rings are not reversed Because -20 on the rings will cancel out you +20 moa rail. No you cant use total cant of 40 moa if your scope only has 40 moa adjustment. When you zero your scope with neutral base and rings you are often somewhere in the middle of your adjustment which would mean 20 moa of up adjustment. The chances of your rifle zeroing at dead bottom of your MOA adjustment giving you 40 MOA of up adjustment is like winning lottery.

You could even be cutting it close with just a 20 MOA rail and neutral rings. If you scope / rifle zero's at 19 MOA off bottom with a neutral set up and you drop a 20MOA rail on it you are 1 MOA short.

To get Up MOA, the scope needs to tilt down just like a tapered base. On a 20 MOA BASE it is thicker in the back. Matt
