For those that have never heard of or attended Rayners LR steel plate matches here is the 2013 schedule. http://www.raynersrange.com/schedule/schedule.html Not a BR or all out Tactical match but more of a precision LR match. All types of guns are welcome including Optic sighted Rifles, Metallic sighted Rifles and LR Handguns. Wooden benches and areas in the grass for prone shooters at each location. Not a place for fancy BR type rests or equipment due to time restraints to keep the match moving along.
Targets range from 234 yards thru 1000 yards and are varying sizes and distances. You get three (3) shots at each distance and some stages allow you different size targets. Smaller targets are higher value and larger ones less value. Up to the shooter to choose and gamble on their and their equipments ability on how many points they go after on each stage. Spotters are not provided although there are usually multiple scopes set up to verify hits. Usually someone is watching thru a scope and will help with spotting but if you want to be spotted for then helping to spot for others is encouraged. Becoming a good spotter is part of becoming a good shooter. Be a good sport and learn to do both well.
A total of thirty six (36) rounds are needed to complete the match. The maximum possible score is 645 and so far the highest score shot with a Scoped rifle is 390 and a 310 with LR handgun and I think a 145 with a Metallic sighted rifle. The targets are placed on a large beautiful farm setting shooting across multiple valleys, woodlines, fields, streams facing all four (4) directions with every changing and varying winds.
Quite a challenging match that keeps everyone on their toes. No flat fields where you can watch multiple wind flags. Tom also allows use of the range thru the week as long as nothing else is going on for the price of $10.00 per shooter for the entire day. They also run two (2) Sniper Challenges, one (1) in the Spring and the other in the Fall. Again, a very challenging course of fire shot from multiple positions and distances.

Rayners is located between Cambridge and Zanesville here in Ohio. Great group to shoot with. If you've never been to a long range match come on down. Nearly everyone will let you check our their equipment and try shooting their gun. Wide assortment also, from $10,000 customs to regular hunting type guns. I'm partial to LR pistols myself, there are four (4) of us now doing it and do give the rifle guys a run for their money. NO prize table or money for wins, just bragging rights and a satisfaction of learning from each outing and being with others that enjoy the same thing.
You only need to experience the thrill of getting off a good shot then waiting those long seconds for that distant "ding" to get hooked. Almost as good as hearing that distant "whomp" of a good hit on a sneaky lil varmint. A few of us go down quite often in between matches for tweaking or practice sessions and enjoy having others join in. Let me know and we'll try to plan a trip down with others.
Hope to see some of you there this summer.
