Ohaus Dial o Grain

I have an old Dial o Grain scale, vintage early to mid 70's. The one with the 10 gr dial adjustment on the beam. It's served me well for big game, varmit, and casual target shooting. I am in the process of building my first custom bench gun and I'm trying to evaluate my existing loading tools. I imagine some of you are familiar with these scales, and wonder if you feel the old girl would be up for the job?

Thanks, Dick

I still use mine and it works just fine, even if it's a little slow compared to the digital scales I use when weighing bullets.....

It's a piece of junk! I'll take it off your hands for its scrap value ;)

Actually, I wish that I could find a nice one at a reasonable price!

Here's one if your looking.

Ok guys, thanks. About what I thought - good, if a little slow. I had given some thought to a DI down the road, but this will do for now, and I'll probably allways want a decent beam scale to keep a digital honest. Geez, if that one on fleabay goes for anything close to $33, that would be a good deal for somebody.

Thanks, Dick

deadly50bmg,
Thanks for the heads-up! I'll have to keep my eye on that one, even though I'd prefer not to do any more business on e-pay. Considering their recent position on gun parts it's the principle of the thing.

Wished I would have seen that before. I have one but it fell off the bench and bent. I went to Ohaus to see if they would repair it but they no longer work on that model. The do make a "Dial - o - grain" which would require constant conversion. Perhaps this will end up being a bidding war.

What do your check weights tell you?

It appears ok on the weight check, but seems kind of sticky right near the balance point. In repeatability, it seems to float a total of about 3/10s around zero. I'm wondering if it doesn't just need a good cleaning. I've always kept it covered, but after about 35 years...?
