Offset flash holes

Picked up some range brass. When I was removing primers the decapping pin was jamming up on the inside of the case. After moving the cases around in the shell holder I finally knocked the primers out. Pretty obvious why the decapping pin wasn’t lining up. They would of probably shot fine but I tossed them. Not worth messing around with.

The LAST new/recent manufacture Winchester brass I purchased, red black and white bag 300 WM brass, had a 25% rejection rate due to split/wrinkles in the neck /body/etc.

Older white and blue bag stuff was ok. The company eventually refunded my money for the crappy cases, but it was a pain in the butt.

Good thing you have some experience in reloading! That looks like a lot of broken decapping pins for a newby.

I bought some bulk, Federal .223 just for running in my mini 14. One out of every 5 pieces of brass looks like that. I will reload the reasonably centered brass for the mini 14. None of the brass is suitable for my Rem 700.

I've been processing some 223 brass accumulated from various sources. Perfecta cases look like that, just about every one. I've started calling them "Rejecta."

Wouldn't you know it, Winchester. I had some WIN 9MM bras that at first glance it looked like the flash hole wasn't centered. Upon closer inspection, the flash holes were centered, but the primer pocket wasn't. Several years back I had a bunch of Winchester .45 ACP brass that had humungus flash holes, there was barely enough material in the bottom of the primer pocket to seat a primer on. I called Winchester about it and the representative I got was a real dick. I explained the problem and he asked me, what do you want me to do, I said replace the brass with the same amount of pieces that are unfit to reload. He said it wasn't his problem and that I should take it up with the people that sold it to me. I said they only sold it, you produced a sub standard product and should stand behind it. After a pause of about 45-50 seconds, he said is there anything else I can do for you. I asked, you're not going to replace the brass and he no, I told him "anything else" would imply that you did something in the first place. Then I told him that whether you care or not, that was the last of your junk "effing" garbage I was ever going to buy and hung up.

If you did this, you would have had to keep them separate, or mark them to identify. Of course leaving them lay just sets up another guy who might want to reload them. 99.9% of the time I concur with ol Dusty, just not this 0.1% time!

It would be nice to know which company was reluctant to refund your money or to replace the bad brass. There are far too many good companies that live on great customer service for me to spend my dollars with a company that doesn’t care to serve us responsibly.

C'mon girls ... It isn't just Winchester that turns out less than stellar brass . I have roughly fifty cases of Federal .308 that are off-center , just like the picture . Some Aguila , too . They came to me by way of commercial ammo purchase for practice ammo several years back . They work fine for "soft" practice loads , with a 155gr Sierra for my Grand-son to learn . Brass is brass , and with the way things are going , WE need to find ways to re-purpose brass if at all possible , rather than scrap it , "because" . And it saves me having to load my Match brass , for the 12 year old to get trigger time . Makes him happy to have his own ammo , too Win - Win .

Winchester may replace them for you.
I had an issue with some WCC68 7.62 once fired brass years back.
I posted a inquiry on one of the shooter websites about the offset flash holes.
Several responses from experienced service rifle shooters who responded stated that offset flash holes are not detrimental to accuracy in their opinion. Out of 1000 cases maybe one out of three were offset.

Yeah - I have had batches way off center, most notably some Federal that was way off. It shot well once I got the primers out. Being off-center doesn't affect the load as much (if any) as a lot of folks might think - at least that has been my experience. Just a bugger on the de-cap pins if not careful. But those in this picture of the 9mm look like they were poked twice - resulting in a larger hole overall. That WOULD affect performance, for sure.

Wait until you try to resize/decap some S&B .243win once fired. Berdan primed, found out after the pin broke. Tossed it all in the recycle bin. Also found S&B pistol brass is hard to resize, toss anything S&B in with the recycle brass.

My 6.5x284 norma loves S&B primers and I have never had a problem with installing or removing them. My biggest problem is I only have 1700 left

Lucky you got refunded. I got coupons that no one would take.
Also I'm not sure but there brass is made somewhere in south America? Though I read it somewhere.
