Off topic, hail storm

Completely off topic: Today I experienced a twenty minute hail storm in Western PA. true golf ball sized hail. Piled up off the metal roof of the school I work four feet deep on the ground (it was funneled off a big roof).

I drive a rat ride...2004 VW. Wait for it.....

Now I drive a Golf ball...

But my car at least kept windows intact. The NEW Mercedes outside twenty feet from my $2000 VW lost the sunroof, the windows, the door to the gas cap and the shell looked like a meth monkey with a ball peen went to town on it.

Hardest part was knowing my 1967 Firebird was outside ten miles away...and I had no way of knowing.

It only got wet. Tomorrow I gotta wrangle friends to push it back into the garage.

Ouch! Sorry about your VW but very happy the Firebird made it! Got any pics? Those storms headed down toward us. We had a minor dust up but nothing bad. Hail is a nightmare for me. My wife wanted 4 big skylights in the bedroom addition I built. I was against making “holes” in my roof but she won. I have thought about making plexiglass covers for them. It’s on my list.

I remember years ago having a new black Mustang and it started to hail, lightly at first. I didn't have a garage. I grabbed couch cushions, blankets, quilts, a couple pillows and anything else I could get my hands on and got it covered up. The hail was up to 3/4" diameter. I got the car through without a single ding but I had some welts on my head. The pain was a lot less than seeing my new car beat up. Glad your Firebird survived.

Me too...never saw hail like that in my life.

I have photos but have to upload later. Gonna be a lot of used cars with dents for sale cheap. I am already trying to get the guy at work with a 2012 GTI who says its gonna be totaled to work me a resale! I don't care how bad it looks, as long as it boogies...

I have a friend with an older Beechcraft Bonanza. He decided to have it painted a couple years ago. It already had a few coats of paint and needed to be stripped. When they stripped it they found it had been in hail storm some time in its past life and the entire top of the plane was covered in Bondo.

Bondo on a Beechcraft ? Give em Thirty Years ! No... Make it Forty ! That's damned near a hangin offense . Some people just have no class at all .

I agree! After stripping and using a modern filler he lost about 60lbs!! The airplane not him.. $23K to fix and paint it. :-0
