Off label use for IOSSO, not guns

As I prepare for winter I'm cleaning up the glass door on my wood burner. I've used water, vinegar, goo gone, etc, but this time I thought about all the carbon removal chemicals sitting in the reloading cabin. First try was Bore tech C4, which did some good but nothing special. IOSSO was next, and that was where the search ended because with very little effort every bit of the stuck on smoke residue was gone.

Just wanted to share. Less time cleaning means more time shooting.

I suspect that Bon Ami or Barkeepers Friend would have worked as well, at a much cheaper price point.

That said, when you need it done (or get around to trying to get it done...)

I've heard of using JB bore cleaner on 1911 rails to smooth them out. I suppose Iosso can work but more abrasive. Still I'd rather do it the old fashion way and shoot lots of rounds.

Have a small Godin coal stove. Fantastic. Broke one of the many pieces of what I thought was glass. Had to get it fixed as now I had NO draft control.
Maybe the guy told me it was ‘silica’ not glass.
For those who have a coal stove you know this could get as hot as Chernobyl without a way to cut the draft down.

Foaming bore cleaner is tops for fireplace glass. No need to scrub. Just spray, soak, and wipe.

Silica is what common glass is made of, i.e. beach sand. Fireplace glass is "ceramic glass" and therefore not really glass at all. If you need a custom piece of ceramic glass, try onedayglass.com, good prices and excellent customer service.

I keep mine clean, by spraying and wiping it off with a paper towel, when it is partially cool or even cold, with nothing more than Windex with ammonia in it.

the better half used Bon Ami on our fireplace glass and actually put fine scratches in it......she was not a happy camper.....

I was about to question using abrasives to clean glass. Now you can take the heat while I eat popcorn.

Might want to send that in to the manufacturers, considering their tag line: "Never scratched yet"...

Are you sure it wasn't scrubbed with something like a Scotch Brite or Brillo pad?

I used 28% ammonia on mine. Mixed with water spray it on and the smoke just melts off. It worked best of all the things I tried. Tom.
