Off cast in varmint stock?

I am working on varmint style stock for Savage PTA, making it from quarter sawn walnut. I want to replicate 40XB stock, wish I knew its factory dimensions. i am wondering if I need to set offcast, or it is not necessary in varmint rifle? Thank you

You don't mention caliber or exactly type of shooting, but cast is not something usually built into rifle stocks. Please remember that recoil direction will be affected by cast off or on. In other words, the gun may want to shoot "crooked".

I have 22-250AI chambered varmint barrel I want to put on it. This is for ground hog shooting from a folding table. It was my impression that off cast helps to shoulder a rifle. But in this kind of setup am not sure if it is needed.

Cast off is used mostly in off hand type of firearms.

Fine shotguns as an example, close your eyes, raise the gun to your shoulder and when you open your eyes, the bead should be on target.

A lot of quality custom rifles are also "fitted" to the shooters build.

On bench guns you want them to track straight.
The bottom of the forend and the bottom of the but stock are in line. Also you want the centerline of the barrel and action to be in line with the stocks centerline.

You might check out McMillans web site, the list several stocks with cast off. You might also get an idea from their stock shapes.
