Odd finish on brass after switching tumbler media

Here is a pic of the chips and a few pins for comparison. As you can see, they are quite small and very sharp. I think it's the sharpness that's peening them. Not sure if this is normal for stainless chips since I've never used them before.

You can bet the farm that's what caused it, pointy little buggers !!!!
Think I'll stick to rice for now....

I simply quit cleaning my brass. I do remove the carbon residue off the outside of the necks and shoulder to maintain proper shoulder bump and neck tension (neck bushing with no expander) and I run a primer pocket uniformer to remove carbon but haven’t tumbled brass in years.

I lube with Hornady One Shot and wipe the cases off after sizing. That actually suffices for keeping them relatively clean. I have Lapua BR brass on firing number 19 that has never been tumbled.

Sometimes I think people believe brass has to look new to shoot well. I promise you that is not the case. Pun intended!

I know dirty brass will shoot just fine. And carbon inside the neck helps with seating bullets as well. I just like to have clean brass. But I do dip the necks in graphite prior to seating bullets to replicate the carbon that was removed
