Ocean front property.........

ME TV and grit have some good westerns. Laramie, and Track Down are two that I watch now but don't remember from my childhood.
Hey ebb, I start everyday with Leave it to Beaver and end it with a DVR`d In the Heat of the Night. Good TV. Jeff

How about a 46 shot group (including sighters) at 200 yds with a .22LR? My target from our 200 yd prone match (400 agg) this past Tuesday. Shot with my scoped Anschutz 54.30, using a sling. Great fun and a challenging match.

Also, I'll admit to spending a little more than $1K per year on competitive shooting. :)

That is great shooting!

Yeah, thanks Danoh. We keep on trying. And, to the point of the OP, to shoot groups like this it takes a pretty serious commitment of time and $$$$'s. But, hey, there's far worse ways to spend money, right!?

MP, very true on the time and commitment.

.22 RF results like that don’t come easy.

So who is spending under $1k a year and has a “few” rifles that all shoot sub 1/2”groups@ 100?

Surely, you jest! $1000 a month, maybe!:D

Josh
As you know I am still new at this game and am constantly adding equipment to boost my game. I have averaged over $500.00 a month spending. Bullets, powder, scales, soon two new barrels, two rifles in one year, front and rear rests and a whole mess of other things to numerous to mention. Seems like I keep finding things I simply can't do without. Of course there are two 80 mile trips a week to the range which require toll fees and gas. Might have to do without toilet paper next week.:(:(:(

I hear you, Nick! The good news is when you finish getting all the gear and tools, it’s just bullets, brass, powder and primers. :pOh, and just stop thinking of buying any other “hot new” cartridges. The two you’re setting up are just fine!

If I buy bullets so I can build a rifle, should I seek professional help?

Don’t know why but I want a 505 Gibbs. My elephant problem went away when I quit planting peanuts in the garden. o_O

:D:D:DI wanted a Ruger #1 in 45/70 so I could shoot the heavy loads shown in the books!! First trip to the range with those loads convinced me I was too old for them!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::mad: They kicked like a mule!
On your first thought: NO, your decision is fine! I’ve bought guns just because I’d collected a pile of range brass in that cartridge!

I see people bragging about 50-shot groups like that at 50 and 100 yards with their tricked out 10/22s!

I don’t like 10 shot groups they’re always bigger than my 5 shot groups....

These were shot last year at 100yds from a 65 year old 219 Donaldson Wasp unlimited bag gun using 60 year old IMR 3031 powder, brass formed from 219 Zipper brass.

I paid $800 for the rifle 3 yrs ago and it does this every time out.

Got any pics of the Wasp rifle.
That is a cartridge I have wanted to try for a long time and keep putting it off. Last one I saw was built on an 03 Springfield, huge amount of cool factor.

It’s a Taylor and Robbins bench gun built on a Mauser action, 31” 1 1/4” diameter barrel, double set triggers. The scope is a 20x Unertl and The rifle weighs 25 lbs. The checkering is of a quality seldom seen, probably done by Don Robbins as he was known for such talent.

Brass can be formed from 30-30 brass or better Federal 30 American brass, that was small primer 30-30 brass- it’s still out there, I found 6 boxes from some guys here. This gun is setup for rims turned to .472”. There’s a guy on Gunbroker (tenmile) who formed my brass including turning the rims.

Get the book by Landis- Twenty-two caliber Varmint rifles, great info on the old Varmint and bench guns.

The Wasp was replaced by the 222 Remington maybe not because the 222 was more accurate but because you didn’t have to form brass. With modern primers and bullets the Wasp really shoots. Harvey Donaldson got velocities faster than the Swift based on holes in steel plates. My loads are quite mild.

in Arizona.

None of these three shot groups, let’s see five or more, then we will talk.

Forget who said it maybe Jeff Cooper, “it ain’t bragging IF you can do it”.

Jeff

Slow day so I’m showin off my better 5 shot groups from my homemade Savage target action with Shilen barrel in 222 Remington.

I could sneeze as I pull the trigger and the group would be under 1/4”.

I’ve got less than $1000 a year in the gun....

More pics to brag on- the target is 5 shots @ 100 yds, the rifle is another homemade job I screwed together. Savage target action, Shilen 28” Varmint taper barrel in 22-250. Nightforce 8-32 in a McRee chassis.

The coyote target was at 600 yds, it’s only 3 shots. Ran out of time cause the bullet took so long to get there. My friend shot it sitting on the ground off a Swagger bipod.

Probably over $1000 a year on this one ...
