Observations about USPS vs. Amazon Shipping

Every once in a while on this forum, there are posts regarding the shipping of products bought on the internet.
I remember, not long ago, that the USPS post office announced they were considering only delivering 5 days a week as a cost cutting measure. Along came Amazon and now, on a Sunday at 10 am, I am awaiting a package from USPS that I bought with free shipping.
Makes me want to laugh.

Bought my wife a knife from Tactical Gear (who is blameless in this other than choosing FEDEX). It shipped from MO and came to Orlando FL, then went back to Brazelton GA and sat for 4 days then went to Port Saint Lucie FL. Promised by FEDEX in 4 days, took 9 . Box was so torn up I figured knife was gone. After it was obvious late the original arrival date was removed for tracking, and all tracking stopped till it was out for delivery.

Howdy !

I am retired.

My wife has fully embraced on-line shopping !
There are so many trucks showing up in front of our house…
I spend a portion of each
day waving-off FED X and UPS drives who think OUR place
is the Distribution Center !!

With regards,

Well, I just had a wonderful experience with USPS.
Had a package shipped Priority Mail To me here in S.C. from CO. Made it to Atlanta in 3 days, where it sat for 3 days. Things have a way of getting “ lost” in Atlanta distribution center. Atlanta is only 3 hrs. Up I-85 to Greenville, SC, which is my distribution hub, but instead Atlanta sent it to Chicago, where it sat a couple days. From there it went to Dallas, TX, and then finally it arrived in Greenville, SC., where it sat for 2 more days.
In all, it took 11 days to reach me. Just one of many war stories I could tell about the USPS

Someone changed the original title of my post. It wasn't to compare Amazon shipping with USPS, but to point out that the USPS had to start working for Amazon to make ends meet. Now, instead of working 5 days a week, they have started to work 7 days. I think they should privatize the postal system and get rid of the gov't slackers.

In my rural area our post office was doing 100% of Amazon deliveries but now that Amazon has added our area as a delivery zone, they have eliminated about 98% of deliveries from USPS according to my carrier. She's VERY excited as it's made her job manageable now.

I had a pleasant surprise with USPS. I ordered some springs from Wolf on a Monday. On Friday, Wolf messaged me that the CC had failed. That afternoon I got that corrected. The Express package showed up in my PO Box on Monday. To say that I was shocked would be an understatement.

Melvin---at least you got your package!! I had a priority mail envelope sent to me from SC to CO. That was back in late May. Still hasn't made it here. Guy that sent it said the USPS sent him a picture of the envelope, but yet to send the envelope

Think Amazon drops off packages at our Rural PO for delivery.
Don't do Amazon PRIME but, HAVE received ordered packages the next day. (I'll just say Thank you) ;)
UPS will drop packages at the PO for folks that live IN THE STICKS. Folks can then come and pick them up. Some places in our area are NOT safe to go.:eek:

We stayed with family a couple of years ago in Colorado Springs. Our Amazon orders would often arrive within a couple of hours! Even here in western Wyoming where we live, it is usually here within 2-3 days if shipped USPS. Amazon is building a hub here so it may get even faster.
The 5 day mail thing was a result of a tremendous drop in letter mail over the past decade or so. Do you pay your bills using stamps and mail anymore? Few people do.
Amazon and other internet shopping has, to some degree, made up for that loss in volume.

While I agree, in his first term Trump brought in a guy from the commercial world to cleanup the USPS; that didn't work so well with the 2 USPS Unions and the Deep State protecting jobs. But it now takes 1 week for a local letter to go 15 miles across town as it makes a 250 mile trip to fit in the established routes after they closed the local processing and sold all the equipment for pennies on the dollar. But the feds still own and operate the building!
As for fully privatizing it, the USPS is specifically assigned as a federal responsibility in the US Constitution (Think Pony Express.) so that could be more than a minor challenge.
