objective lens diameter size ?

Stumbled across this today on Optics Planet. Very short and to the point. Comment on tube size I am sure will cause some to blow a gasket.

I don't see why that should cause some to blow a gasket; pretty much everyone knows that tube diameter has nothing to do with the amount of light being transmitted unless larger internal lenses are used, which they almost never are. A larger diameter tube simply allows for a greater adjustment range.

Edited to add. Another benefit to the 30mm tube size is that's stronger than a corresponding 1 inch tube. That's important if you tend to use your scope as a lever to change tires or as a hammer.

Then there's the issue of setting scopes W and E adjustments to optical zero when the inner erector tube is perfectly centered on the outer tube as well as the axis between the objective and ocular lens centers.

All the scopes I've measured have more adjustment range up and right from center. And there's often more clicks in those directions after the inner tube stops against the outer tube. Knobs click but reticle doesn't.
