OAL for 6.5-284?

Looking for OAL of a 6.5-284 w/ 140gr bullets... 139gr Scenars in particular.

I realize this value can vary considerably, depending on how the chamber was cut, how the bullet meets the lands, how many rounds down the barrel, etc. so to keep this, relatively) simple just tell me what you'd expect to see for a cartridge OAL w/ a 140gr bullet of your choice when said bullet is seated to the lands. I'm looking for a range here. A one loading manual I have said 'Optional' for the OAL value on the cartridge diagram, and others said 2.880-2.9x0 for 140gr pills. Another said 3.130, which seems a bit much. But if a person wanted to seat the bullet out past the shoulder/neck junction i.e. doughnut region, it seems like it'd almost have to be past 3.000"...

Thanks,

Monte

With my PT&G 6.5-284 reamer with .188 freebore.

Hard in the lands with square marks on the bullets.

140 Berger - 3.190 OAL

142 Sierra - 3.130 OAL

Sorry, no Lapua's

The bullet base sits just above the body/shoulder junction of the case.

The pressure ring is 2/3rds down the case neck.

I size about 7/8ths of the neck, and the pressure ring sits just above this.

When I ordered the reamer, I specified one throated for the 142's, & this is what I got. I'd say it's about perfect.

I think the barrel will give out before you run out of throat to chase, and the bullet base doesn't cut into powder capacity.

My barrel was chambered with a PT&G no neck turn reamer, and at my request it was throated to seat the 139 Scenar hard to the lands but with "a little room left so I could chase the lands when the throat eroded".

It turns out that when new the COAL with the Scenar was 3.040". Since I'm using H4350 there's plenty of room in the case at that COAL for more powder ;)
