Nylon Brush

I have just about given up using a Jag to clean the bore because they fall off, they jam in the bore, the point tears a hole thru the patch, patch vs jag has to be just the correct size, patch to thick.
Well you get the idea
What would be wrong with using a nylon brush wrapped with a patch I have been doing this alot more lately and find it more convenient.

So my question is does it hurt the bore or muzzle to use a nylon brush everytime i clean the gun.
1 My steps are nylon brush with patch and solvent.--repeat if still dirty
2 nylon brush with dry patch
3 nylon brush with oiled patch

There are no problems using jags IF........1/ you secure it to the cleaning rod using a cleaning rod pliers or an arrow nocking pliers 2/ you use quality 100% cotton patches such as ProShot brand which maintain consistent thickness and size 3/ you use the proper size patch along with a certain size jag in order to get a suitably tight fit to the bore (not necessarily a jag designated as the same caliber as the bore) - this takes a bit of experimenting to get it sized right.
IMHO the nylon brush will cause the same problems (except for piercing) as you are now having, ......and for proper cleaning a bronze brush is necessary. A few short years ago, there was a trend to switch from bronze to nylon. Apparently, that idea didn't turn out too well as the majority switched back to using bronze brushes again.....or go brushless and clean with Wipe Out foam.

I like to use nylon brushes and I do use them everytime I clean. I have not been able to see any ill effects of using one.

I am also a fan of bronze brushes, but I do like to use them sparingly and when it is needed because I have bad copper or carbon fouling. The reason for me to use bronze brushes...it is one of the only ways to truly get the gun clean for most people. That being said, I have been able to get a barrel very clean with a nylon brush, bronze brush wrapped in 3" cleaning patches so none of the bronze bristles are exposed, and either a combo of Wipeout, Hoppes, Boretech, Sweets or Ballistol. I have been experimenting lately....

My new cleaning regimen in a 7mm is to use the Wipeout accelerator on a bronze brush (.22 caliber) wrapped with a 3" patch (this seems to be the perfect fit for my guns to get a tight fit, but easy to go down the barrel), do quite a few strokes of this to "prep" the barrel. Then, shoot Wipeout into the gun with a flexible hose and leave it in the gun for 15-30 minutes. Then, a nylon brush with a combo of accelerator and wipeout and multiple strokes of this and then I will cleanout with hoppes on a bronze brush with a cleaning patch and then dry it out with dry patches on the bronze brush. I find that this gets almost everything out that I want to get out and surprisingly gets the copper out as well. I confirmed this on multiple cleanings and a borescope.

Ditto the VFG cleaning pellet system.

I use them in .22 rimfire, .22 centerfire, and in my 6mm RAT and Dasher.

I find them to be much quicker and clean better than patches, generally speaking.
I believe it has to do with the surface area in contact with the bore.

The plain felts transport solvent well and also work great to dry the bore.

When I use an "abrasive" like JB or KG2 I believe the felt pellets work better than a patch wrapped brush.

Your mileage may vary, but I have had great results with this system.

Yes, the pellets stay on the holder very well when used in a "back and forth" motion.

I've tried the VFG pellets in a 0.308 barrel, very easy to use but I question whether the surface area is big enough compared to a patch. I bought the Brownells adapter so I could fit 3 on. Great for applying Iosso and a general lube but not sure about these pellets for the "hard work". I have tried the green impregnated more abrasive pellets also.

Gone back to bronze brush to get the carbon out, KG for the copper and use the VFG for oiling the bore before storage.

Anyone using the VFG blue bore paste ?

I just want to try em for applying jb or iosso. I dont have an issue with a patch/ jag then a bronze brush so im not looking for a new way to clean maybe just an easier way to apply those pesky abrasives.

Well, I find the VFG pellets are very good for that.

I clean my rifles with Bore Tech Eliminator with a nylon brush and in my opinion it works very well. I also use Montana nylon brushes with JB Compound when I use it. I have never had any problems using cotton patches with a pointed jag. When I use a mixture of Shooters Choice and Kroil I use a brass brush to clean with.
