NXS with no reticle light?

i was shooting a friends NXS and I told him to turn on the reticle and he said HUH?

he got it used and I tried to push/pull the left AO and didn't move??

no light or is it seized or somewhere else or none?

what am I missing?

Oh, the side focus. Gotcha. I never liked the NXS illumination control. It comes from the factory set very light. First check the battery, then while the cover is off, twist the screw with a small screwdriver and see if the reticle illuminates. Finding a decent setting is an exercise in futility.

the side focus? parallax

it did not push in or pull out. it was getting dark and was his, I don't think it had a light?

I would do that if it moved on/off in/out? I never saw a NXS with no light?

Did they make a NXS with no light is my question, it was not like what I am familiar with.

Parallax is a phenomenon engendered by having the objective focused on a different focus plane than reticle focus plane. This situation is corrected bye one of two methods: An adjustable objective (AO) where you actually focus the objective by the simple expedient of twisting the objective lens; or a side focus which involves moving a focusing lens located between the objective and the first of the three focal planes in a riflescope. The side focus knob, located on the left side of the riflescope is the one that adjusts the focusing lens.

This is also one of the big differences between the NXS and BR versions of the Nightforce riflescopes. The BR series has the AO, and the NXS has the SF. This is also why lots of people reported the BR model as being brighter than the equivalent NXS model. The NXS has an additional lens and therefore greater light transmission loss. The Nightforces never had a reputation for high light transmission values. Coatings.

Do you know the exact model name of the riflescope to which you are referring?

I have an NSX that I never used the light on that got almost impossible to pull out to turn the light on. I don't know if the grease got hard or just what, but it took a lot of effort to finally get it to come loose. Then the battery was dead...

I find it interesting that I am reminded by this thread that my NXS's have illuminated reticles.... assuming there are batteries in them.

interesting, now we got the knob straightened out ;-) lol thx

I do not know model but it had a BDC added on top the turrets and had a 20 MOA rev 5.5x22 and looked like 50mm. He bought the whole set up used. im trying to get a pic sent. maybe it was seized?

I thought all Nightforce had a light? I wasn't about to pull the knob off his new gun and have to buy him a new NXS.

Is there a ring around the parallax knob, like yours? If so, it has illumination. I have never seen one that didn't, and my first 3.5-15 is from the late 90s, early 2000s.

A quick call to NF with the serial number will clear it up but if I was a betting man I would put money down on it having illumination. I would also bet all NXSs were illuminated. Of course, I loose a bunch of money when I bet so....

You pull out on the parallax knob to turn it on. I remember that part, and the battery is in there but for the life of me i can't remember how to open it up. (Not looking at a scope right now)

It may be a dead battery, or it may need brightness adjusted. Someone above posted how to make that adjustment.

I am trying to get a pic of it and we just got together for the weekend and shot some 500yd+ tannerite into the darkness :) Sunday night.

I have a 5.5x22x50 NXS and my light works, his side knob looked more like the compact not the NXS ?

Illuminated Reticles

"Most Nightforce scopes are equipped with Illuminated Reticles"

most??? he bought it as a used/ pre owned package, 300RUM 210 Berger McMillan stock etc....it was sweet. He thought I was nuts telling him to turn in the reticle?
I didn't have my cheater glasses and it was dark, they left by AM...sorry, that's all I got without a pic.....

The Nightforce catalog states all NXS scopes have illuminated reticles.
