Nutless large shank savage

Can I run nutless on a 1.250" shank barrel blank for a large shank action? Looks like the tenon will be around 0.130" left after the large shank threads are cut. Is that enough or do I need to use the nut?

I have 2 Heavy Varmint barrels w/o the nut.
Most Gunsmiths want to make them that way.

Both of mine are 1.250. No Problems.

Greg Wahlstrom did one, Jay Cutright did the other.

Two of the finest, In my humble opinion.
Feel free to call them.
PM me if you need the phone numbers.

Quick figures you should end with .135 tennion total . Recoil lug must slide over the threads. To me .065 isn't enough if your going to change the barrel often . A few times of and on I feel the barrel could wear . Larry

Thanks dasher but I hope this barrel will be planted for a long time, that's one reason I'm going without the nut. That and weight. Hope to keep it under 10#s

I appreciate the quick and helpful advice. This started out as a small shank project but after advisement I went to the large shank. Building up a 338 rum 28" lightweight Palma under 10lbs

It will have a break to help me out.. As they say you carry it more than you shoot. I will be shooting this at a friendly shoot we have local but mainly hunting.
