numbers that matchon savage

i bought a savage lrpv i was cleaning it up& noticed the 4 numbers on the bolt lug are they suppose to match the last 4 digets of the serial# or what thanks for experience on this regards shooter63

Yes, they should match. Although if they don't, a previous owner probably switched the bolt face to change calibers at some point. Not a big deal but, probably won't be a bad idea to double-check the headspace.

I would call who you bought it off and question what the deal is regarding no flutes and the bolt not matching would make me more than mad.

The action seems sloppy how/when? Uncocked sloppy bolt may be failure to tighten 1/4 drive allen on the bolt which can shoot loose if not properly tightened. I'd surely double check ( or in your case-check) headspace just because the barrel has been off if for no other reason. You never know what someone has done or failed to do.

the previous owner says he put a ptg boltlug on this ive been used to a bat and 1 other savage this action seems xtra sloppy& loose ill check the headspace though the barrel raised flags for me because all these guns ive seen had fluted barrels but not this 1 barrel has been off though & appears ill be taking it of myself regards shooter63

There you have it, for some reason he switched out the bolt head. Does the new bolt head have numbers on it? I doubt that PTG would stamp numbers on an aftermarket bolt head??

Check out the diagram there to see what the numbers should be for sure as I am not exactly sure where you are measuring to.
