Number of Grooves

Can someone explain how the number of grooves affects accuracy/bullet performance. What factors need to be considered when choosing the number of grooves. I am looking at a 6BR sporter build and want to shoot bullets in the 80 - 100 gr range.

In my opinion, number of groves isn't really important.
Some people like to have an odd number of grooves, just so the bullet is not 'squeezed' by two directly opposing riflings.
Good luck,

Howdy !

Pick the barrel makers you desire, based on barrel options and prices they provide. Things like a special rifling, 5 "C",
5 "R", etc ) will drive you to certain barrel makers.

Also, some vendors only provide barrels of certain max diameters and/or max finished lengths. Others, provide anything you want, but add-on $$ for each non-stock option; like larger diameters and super-long lengths.

Any of the top name barrel makers will " do ya right ".

My point:
YOu may want to pick your barrel/maker by conisdering other factors than # of lands/grooves.

If youjust have ot have say... a 4-groove, that right there will winnow-down you short list.

Best of luck in your endeavors.
