Folks may not realize, but the National Rifle League (NRL), offers a very active and popular .22 Rimfire Series, called NRL22. The NRL, which is similar to PRS, but perhaps with a more Western focus, launched the NRL22 series in 2017, and it is gathering steam. The NRL even added an airgun class to NRL22 for 2019. That makes the competition even more affordable (but certainly challenging).
Both bolt-action and semi-auto rimfires are permitted. The NRL22 was created to provide a way for shooters that are looking to get into the sport of precision rifle shooting the opportunity to do so without having to invest a lot of money in gear and travel.
The NRL22 program is designed so that any facility with a 100-yard range can participate in local competitions to qualify for a regional match and then move on to a National Championship.
