NRL22 -- Fun Rimfire Matches with a Tactical Flavor

Folks may not realize, but the National Rifle League (NRL), offers a very active and popular .22 Rimfire Series, called NRL22. The NRL, which is similar to PRS, but perhaps with a more Western focus, launched the NRL22 series in 2017, and it is gathering steam. The NRL even added an airgun class to NRL22 for 2019. That makes the competition even more affordable (but certainly challenging).

Both bolt-action and semi-auto rimfires are permitted. The NRL22 was created to provide a way for shooters that are looking to get into the sport of precision rifle shooting the opportunity to do so without having to invest a lot of money in gear and travel.

The NRL22 program is designed so that any facility with a 100-yard range can participate in local competitions to qualify for a regional match and then move on to a National Championship.

They are very fun matches.

I just wish I had some closer, keep having to go to Midland, or Navasota (both 3-4 hours)

You could host them yourself. You need a minimal amount of equipment to do so, that's the whole idea! You need a 100 yard range, their steel target pack, a chair, ladder, tank trap, and you're good to go.

It's extremely fun and cheap-ish way to get into prs style shooting. NRL's big thing was wanting to get the kids involved. The stages are very challenging and fun but not over complicated. I have an 8 year old that just started shooting my match this year and loves it. I also have a 62 year old that has been shooting my match since I started it. So it truly is for everyone.

I recently ask a local club that has these types of matches if they would consider doing the matches on the NRL22 formats and they said they were not interested in being involved. They try to go out 200-400 yds with there matches and cant get 2 handfulls of shooters to participate. Just curious why this club would not want to be sanctioned.

It could be they don't want to have to do the work of organizing and setting up matches. If you volunteered to be the match director and do that work it may change things. My club started off a few seasons ago with a small group. This morning's match has 43 shooters.
