NRA Whittington Center housing

A reminder to those attending the Short Range Score Nationals ( and other shoots as well ) that the housing reservations at the NRA Whittington Center opens on February 1st. If you intend to stay at the Center you should check out the available housing and RV spots at NRAWC.org and get your reservations for the shoots as early as possible. It is popular and there are a lot of events going on all year round.

They have an outstanding campground. Very clean, full services and some of the sites have 4 star views. Highly recommended.

Have you stayed there before? We stayed there the first time we went to Raton because most matches we go to we stay at HI expresses. That is one of the not so better ones we have been in… we always stay at the Best Western now. It actually is pretty good (stay in the main hotel part). The part over by itself always looks sketch…. Last year we were there the entire month of July.

I wouldn't say lucky.... i would say constant persistence.

Something bothers me about the housing at Raton, if you make a reservation and fail to appear or cancel it there seems to be no penalty. Every year I have gone there, there are tons of rooms and cabins that are empty and when I have asked at the front gate, they tell me they are reserved right now… and when I asked about no one being in them they just said, “well, maybe they will show up…”. I have stayed in both the cabins and competitor housing and both are adequate but not super comfortable.

Made a run through New Mexico today and stopped in Raton. I ate at a great little restaurant and talked to a couple of locals. They said the breakfast is even better than the dinner. I plan on eating here a time or two during the Nationals.

Yes. Its a nice little place.

I’ve never been to a benchrest match. I’m now living only 2 1/2 hours from Whittington. Maybe I’ll come over and check it out.
