NRA Members: NRA Insurance Worthless if You Don't Activate It

Forum Boss

One of the benefits of being an NRA member is getting $2500.00 worth of ArmsCare insurance coverage for your firearms. However, as one of our Forum members learned the hard way... that insurance is worthless if you have not ACTIVATED your policy. You do this by going online and providing contact information and your NRA number.

LINK TO NRA INSURANCE ACTIVATION Page (for current NRA Members)

A prominent forum member recently had valuable rifles stolen. Being an NRA member in good standing, he contacted the NRA insurance department. The NRA confirmed that his membership was paid up, but his insurance claim was rejected out of hand, because he had not "activated" his policy.

Draw your own conclusions about this practice... but be forewarned that your NRA ArmsCare insurance policy is useless unless you activate. Loss claims by NRA members with non-activated accounts WILL be denied -- we now have proof of that, sad to say.

Don't do this -- Activate your Policy!!

I'm sure that if it is like any other insurance they will find something else that will allow them not to pay out.

Tim

I have heard (secondhand) that it is better about paying than normal. You need to have activated it, and have the serial's and description of your guns, and they pay.

I do not have any actual experiences, that's just what I have heard, so that may all be hogwash.

I had a revolver stolen from my truck while it was sitting in my driveway. Called the NRA insurance, they will only pay what your home owners doesn't pay. My home owners contacted a gun dealer they deal with and got one appraisal the NRA contacted their people for an appraisal, theirs was several hundred dollars less, guess what price they paid. Yeah I lost out. Alan

This is the reason i quit the NRA in 1992....I had several stollen and after making a claim they claimed they didnt have the proper info...we called first and got everything they told us to get...when we turned it in they kept saying we were missing something..then after the 90 day mark they told us it was past the due date to get our claim submitted..it had been submitted but they kept finding reasons to delay it until the 90 mark...

Nothing against the NRA but i told them I was not going to renew my membership until they have changed companies that they provide insurance thru...to this date i have not rejoined and will not until they do something about getting a better provider

Fred, just my opinion, but it seems to me you have cut off your nose to spite your face.

I agree. but I had to make a stand somewhere. At the time, NRA's insurance was one of the big reasons I joined.I was making a stand hoping they would at least consider looking into their insurance Co.The last time I received a call from the NRA was about 3 years ago asking me to rejoin. I told the guy no because I had a bad experience in the past and he stopped me dead sentence and said "was it to do with our insurance Co." I said yes and he stated that they have been hearing a lot of that. and that the insurance Co. was out sourced to a Co. that the NRA has no control over. I told them if they would get a better insurance co. id be more than happy to rejoin the NRA.

I look at it this way....If the NRA cant choose a competent company to honor a claim on a couple thousand dollars for firearms stolen and or lost in a fire...Why in the world would I trust the NRA to fight for my 2nd addmen. rights. See my logic here?

Who is the carrier? Range insurance is Lockton Enterprises. Of all companies in the country, Lockton is the only company endorsed by NRA for shooting range coverage.
