NRA 2-Year Membership Discount

Texas Solo

B.S. High Master
Time for my renewal. I went online, clicked the link, and found something. Maybe it's new??

NRA now has a "Distingushed" membership. It's exactly the same as a regular membership, but costs less. You have to be 65 or retired Military to qualify.

I got 2 years for $60.

Just got my renewal letter in the mail as well. I was considering purchasing a lifetime membership but, see that it's now $750. I wish I had purchased while it was $500.

I just renewed my membership for 2 years for $60 as Texas Solo stated in his post. According to the agent it was a current deal and didn't mention anything about senior or military discount (I'm both) however good deal. Thanks TS@

Note: the NRA membership used to include $2500 insurance on firearm losses. I know this as I had a benchrest gun stolen after a match 9 years ago and NRA did reimburse me the $2500. I just chatted with the same agent asking about this. She informed me this insurance is no longer in effect. You now have to purchase insurance if you want any kind of coverage.

Imagine that.

I don't mind paying the extra every two years even though I would qualify for less. I contribute extra money regularly anyway. Years ago I thought about doing the lifetime membership and I thought they would be cheating themselves out of my yearly contribution. They're still the best organization.

I saw the 2 yr, $60.00 renew also. My letter mentioned nothing about senior/military either, but I do qualify regardless. So that is how I will travel with this renewal.

I'm a former 'lifetime member' for many years. I quit about 30 years ago, I don't remember exactly when. I might join again if WLP was prosecuted. There are probably board members that also should be prosecuted. WLP did not steal all that money in secrete. All organizations, public or private need effective 'checks and balances'. The NRA needs a clean sweep of past board members, and WLP needs to be prosecuted. The NRA is not the organization it used to be, and won't be until a thorough house cleaning. Members must do it or they are wasting their contributions.

If you know someone who "represents" the NRA (many regional groups have NRA representatives), they can usually get you discounted memberships. My local NRA chapter will do this if I happen to ask.

I have received many "likes" for my thoughts just above and also the others I have posted. As I have said before I'm not currently an NRA member, the repair the organization needs must come from with in by the current members. I'm not able (82 w/ health problems, lack of knowledge & ability) to pursue or make a legal case against WLP, BUT, HE MUST BE CHARGED AND PROSECUTED. He was caught stealing (the court ordered payment to the NRA) from the members and a 501 organization. How a case can be moved from a civil court to a criminal court in NY state is way above the pay grade of a retired construction worker. Do any of the present board members have the integrity and ethics to do this? Money should be available to them to hire an outside attorney to reclaim the money stolen and prosecute WLP and others. WLP stole from the members and organization, he should be prosecuted. Support of an organization with a board that is lacking integrity, ethics and honesty I will not do, they can not be trusted.

In my mind NRA still has not cleaned up the WLP mess. The new leadership has said nothing that convinces me otherwise. I've been a Life Member for most of my adult life but won't give them a penny until I am totally convinced the leadership and BOD have the members interests as their first and foremost priority. I, too, am a member of the Illinois State Rifle Association.
