NOTICE to Members:
SERVER UPGRADE SATURDAY March 8, 2014
This Saturday, starting at about 10:00 am Central Time, we plan to move this Forum to a new server. Don't worry, there will be no change in format -- no change in the way the Forum looks or works.
We are upgrading to increase horsepower -- moving to a server with a much faster processor, more storage, and 8 times more RAM. We hope you'll see a difference in Forum speed, particularly during peak traffic periods.
During the upgrade process the Forum will be offline (not available) for 3-4 hours (if things go according to plans). There is a chance we might be offline for a longer period if there are unanticipated issues.
Please do not send us emails or call our telephone number complaining about the outage. This is a normal, planned upgrade that will benefit all Forum members.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP -- PLEASE PRUNE OLD PRIVATE MESSAGES
Thousands of forum members still maintain hundreds of private messages that are many years old. These old private messages create lots of "dead weight" that increases the load on our servers and slows the database.
Please get rid of your private messages more than six months old.
To do this, click on "My Messages", then "ACTIONS" (below the small ads), then select "Prune Messages" from the drop-down options.
After selecting "Prune Messages", a window will open prompting you to put in a number of days. We suggest 120 (4 months), but you could also put in 90 (three months) or 180 (six months). Be careful -- the default value is 14 days -- don't click the "delete" button until you've entered the value you want.
