Not sure What I heard last night!!??

Last night I got home late. I popped on the boob tube to Hanity on Fox. He had two congressmen on...I didn't catch their names as I only caught the last 40 seconds of the interview.

The comment was made by one of the congressmen..."last night Obama threatened the last company smelting lead for making bullets in the country with tens of millions of dollars in fines and penalties.....today that company is closed"!!!

I actually had a friend call me two min later and ask me if I had heard it!!

Like I said, I don't know the reason the two congressmen were on....I don't know if they were from the house of senate. I have no context since I only saw the last little bit of the interview.

Can anyone clear this up for me. I know that there are some very informed people on this website.

Thanks,

Tod Soeby

I know that the company is closed - EPA demands that no one could meet.

Bullet companies get most of their lead from overseas as recycled product, so we are ok for a while - I can't wait to see him out of office.

probably an old interview...old news not exactly correct.
the last smelter for us raw lead is shut down, plenty of smelters in operation doing recycled lead.....

still a stupid move

NRA-ILA
Charlotte, NC --(Ammoland.com)- In December, the final primary lead smelter in the United States will close. The lead smelter, located in Herculaneum, Missouri, and owned and operated by the Doe Run Company, has existed in the same location since 1892.

The Herculaneum smelter is currently the only smelter in the United States which can produce lead bullion from raw lead ore that is mined nearby in Missouri’s extensive lead deposits, giving the smelter its “primary” designation. The lead bullion produced in Herculaneum is then sold to lead product producers, including ammunition manufactures for use in conventional ammunition components such as projectiles, projectile cores, and primers. Several “secondary” smelters, where lead is recycled from products such as lead acid batteries or spent ammunition components, still operate in the United States.

Doe Run made significant efforts to reduce lead emissions from the smelter, but in 2008 the federal Environmental Protection Agency issued new National Ambient Air Quality Standards for lead that were 10 times tighter than the previous standard. Given the new lead air quality standard, Doe Run made the decision to close the Herculaneum smelter.

Whatever the EPA’s motivation when creating the new lead air quality standard, increasingly restrictive regulation of lead is likely to affect the production and cost of traditional ammunition. Just this month, California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a bill that will ban lead ammunition for all hunting in California. The Center for Biological Diversity has tried multiple times to get similar regulations at the federal level by trying, and repeatedly failing, to get the EPA to regulate conventional ammunition under the Toxic Substances Control Act.

At this time, it’s unclear if Doe Run or another company will open a new lead smelter in the United States that can meet the more stringent lead air quality standards by using more modern smelting methods.

What is clear is that after the Herculaneum smelter closes its doors in December, entirely domestic manufacture of conventional ammunition, from raw ore to finished cartridge, will be impossible.

I might have miss heard, or the man may have miss spoke, about the "last night" part. He may have said last month or last year.

I do know that it was a live interview talking about how Obama is bypassing the checks and balances of our govt and simply using the EPA to "regulate" his agenda into law!!

This guy is simply UNBELIEVEABLE!!

And yet...51% or more of the voting public approved of his hiring. It's like going to the VA Hospital. There are NO cooks or clerks. All special forces, seals and recon. Now I can't find a single person who gladly stands tall and says I voted for the Idiot in Charge.

You have been asking in the wrong places,Go to
the well fare and food stamp offices, you will find
lots of voters. LDS

Regardless of when the standards were enacted, These Federal bureaucrats pick and choose who
and when depending on political winds. The timing of the closing of Doe is certainly suspect. An
entrepreneur today would be better advised to grow marijuana than smelt lead.

I used Doe virgin lead when I competed in muzzleloading and am sorry to see them go.
