Not a very smooth chambering

I have always single fed on my bolt guns and the bolt slides very smooth. During my last two outings, I tried to do magazine fed.

My issue, when the bolt is trying to pick up the next round, it is not a smooth ride. I see PRS shooters chamber from magazine so smoothly like there is nothing.

I have adjusted and deburred the lips of the magazine to no avail. Doesn't matter how many rounds are in the magazine, the bolt doesn't slid smoothly.

Any help is appreciated.

Defiance 6GT AICS

I have two metal AICS mags and both are hard. I have one polymer mag specifically for rhe 6mm. That one is a bit smoother but nothing to brag about.

I make 5 or 6 dummy rounds and fiddle with the mags on the bench till they feed smooth. Polish the feed lips helps, the correct presentation to the bolt, then angle.

AW magazines ( which a lot of PRS shooters use ) tend to feed a lot smoother than the AICS style.

FWIW, I have a 1500 LA magnum that I use the Magpul magazine to feed from. It's not really tuneable but feeds very smooth. Might be worth a try. They are AICS.

When I switched from AICS to plastic mags things felt much nicer. And my pretty brass quit getting racing stripes.

Sounds like something is not right with the magazine feed lips. If you insert a few cartridges and then push the back end of the top cartridge with your thumb it should move smoothly when applying (up to) moderate force.

A few months ago a had to tweak a 10 round AICS magazine for the 308 type of cartridge. I had another one that fed quite smoothly that I could compare to.

Why does AW work better than AICS?

Because the AW magazines to not contact the bottom of the bolt, they sometimes don't even feel like they picked the round from the magazine it is that smooth. If you shoot 6GT then you might want to give these a try if your action has the AW cut

I have an Bighorn Origin in 6 Creed that seems to bind with one Accurate Mag metal AICS mag. I have another AI AICS mag that feeds slicker that snot. The mag feed lips need to be adjusted.
