Nosler RFD 6.5

Does anyone have any experience with the Nosler RFD's either 140 or 130 at 600 or 1000 yards? How do they sort compared to Match Kings or ELD-M?

DLH you are so correct. Sometimes I need saved from myself.LOL.[/QUOTE

You are more than welcome. I do not have any experience with either bullet but I’ll be interested in hearing what others have to say on performance. I’m considering try them in 6.5x284 and 6.5x47.

I use the 105s and the 140s. They shoot great. I have been using them for over a year now and don't think I will be switching anytime soon.

I could not get the occasional points losing vertical flier tuned out so I quit using them. That was in my particular gun...YMMV. I did like the price.

The 140 advertised bc is accurate, it bucks the wind well. That said, the 123 Lapua Scenar yields the tightest groups by far in my rifle. And the higher velocity makes vertical dope virtually the same. I still shoot both, maybe I can limit to one of them some day.

What calibre, barrel length/twist rate, powder and seating depth are you running for the 105s out of interest? I've got a batch sitting at home for a 6XC, Mullerworks 26" 1:7.75 twist barrel. Have not done any extensive testing yet and probably won't start until December/January but just interested in seeing how you find them and whether you have any random fliers in your groups?

140's didn't work too great in any of the 6.5mm barrels I tried them in. I think RDF stands for "random damn flyer". I don't think I've shot a single 5-shot group with them less than 0.75 MOA. have shot the odd killer 0.1-0.25 MOA 3 shot groups though.

I feel like you either have to be a Nosler sponsored shooter or damn lucky to get a box of RDF's that are consistent.

I agree.
The RDF's are the best looking bullets around. They have a particularly sexy meplat, perfectly formed. I had high hopes for them in my 6.5mm Creedmoor and did quite a bit of vary careful load testing with 140gr RDF's along with 140gr Berger Hybrids, 140gr Berger VLD's and SMK 150's using both H4350 and Reloder 16.

The average MOA of five, 5 shot groups is as follows:
RDF .620
SMK .949
VLD .291
Hybrid .227

My experience is similar to that of kthomas. I could launch four into the same ragged hole and the fifth would land somewhere out in left field.

The Berger Hybrid's, on the other hand, behave as one might hope. So guess which ones I use in competition?

The RDF's are like the flashy blond you take to a fancy party in the Hampton's, even though she has a little bit of a coke habit and has three different therapists on speed dial..
The Berger Hybrid is the one you marry, still pretty, but without all the issues.

When I take apart loaded cartridges, I use an inertial bullet puller (a whacker). Normally, cartridge disassembly takes 6-8 whacks. But with the Nosler RDF's, it only takes 2-3 whacks. I can't measure that accurately, but perhaps the RDF's pressure ring is too narrow, or the bullet diameter is very slightly too narrow.

I am on my second box of 500 and have had good results with them. Shot a 0.8" 5 shot group at 300 last Saturday. I will continue to shoot them for now. If I am having fliers they are getting lost in my bad wind calls.

As with most other things, those who don't like them are more vocal than those who do. All I can say is try them and see.

Willow, I shoot a 243 Ruger Precision 7.5 twist. I have been using Superformance powder. I don't remember me coal, I will have to look. I haven't had any random fliers.
