Nosler brass for 308?

I have been using Lake City NM, Lapua, and Winchester brass for the 308 for some time now, how does the Nosler compare in weight, volume and durability to the others?

My personal experience is the primer pockets seem to loosen up with loads that were midrange at best.I tried some higher pressure loads in my .260 and garbaged about 1/3rd of a box of brass as the pockets were so loose that I could tap the case head at an angle on my loading bench and the primer would fall out. Others say that it depends on the caliber or cartridge you shoot if they will loosen or not.It is good brass as far as loading out of the box,no prep necessary basically.I seem to get about 6 loads and they are spent for me.

I've been running Nosler brass for about 18 months. I've had a mixed bag of results. There was a huge variation in weight (164->176gr). I've been running 168 Hornadys with 45gr Varget with GM210M primers. I've also been running 175 SMK's with 44.2gr Varget with GM210M's. I've had some primer pockets blow after 3 reloads and some are still strong after 8 reloads.

I'm waiting to blow the rest of the primer pockets out and then I'm going to switch over to Lapua brass.

When I had my 260 rem, I had great results with their brass. Very consistent and seemed very durable. I was running a pretty stout load of ReLoder 17 and had no issues of primer pockets loosening. Ive got one box of Nosler 308 brass that will be used when I finally burn through my Lapua 308 brass, which might be next century since I have 300 pieces of Lapua and I am now annealing.

The last time I looked powder valley had some lapua and it isnt much more than nosler,in fact it may be cheaper because you get 100 for around 73.00.You would be much further ahead. In fact the nosler is about 83.00 per hundred (2 boxes of 50 pcs)!

Personally, I shoot Benchrest and primarily use Lapua 1st with Lake City Match a close second. I have some friends who mostly shoot F/TR competition (and have for a very long time) which is apparently your thing. With them, it's Lake City Match first, then Lapua , Nosler and Winchester last. Might want to test in your particular rifle, but those guys all shot Model 70's and get great results and their brass lasts. Just my take on it.
