Nosler .30-06 165 gr AB recipe

My .30-06 Savage 110 hunting rifle shoots the Nosler Trophy Grade 165 gr AccuBonds factory ammo really well and I'd like to recreate the ammo to save money. Anyone happen to know what powder, grains and primer Nosler uses? The data on the box says it has an MV of 2800 fps. I'm showing a median of 2764 fps out of my rifle with a 22" barrel. Thanks

For starters pull a bullet weigh and inspect powder for size shape and color.
Post a pic of powder, I'd bet someone here would know
Confirm powder weight with load manuals for velocity

I would also start with Nosler's load data since they've done more pressure-velocity-accuracy testing of the AB than any powder manufacturer has. I don't know the twist of your Savage barrel, but during their 30-06 they used a 10-twist, 24" barrel so if I were you, it would look for loads that were about 2850fps which subtracting for the 2-inch difference would probably come close to your velocity of 2764fps; I would also use Win LR primers as that is what they used in all their loadings. Of course they used Nosler brass and I don't know how that compares volume-wise to other brands of 30-06 brass.

Don't know what powder Nosler uses but IMR 4530 in a 30 06 with 165 grain bullets is a perfect combo in my experience.

What Bc'z said...

Remove the head, dump powder on a reloading scale. Take pic of powder.

Nosler uses Nosler brass... That's a start.

Problem is even if you use the same exact components, it will not guarantee the same results.
Neck tension is a very big deal when trying to recreate factory loads.

This is the reason why most folk who try to re-create a factory load never obtain the same performance with their replicas.

I've tried replicating a few different factory loads and did not get the same accuracy as the factory loads.
Unfortunately good ol load development is still the best bet for obtaining best accuracy.
