Norway Energy Issues and Ammo Production

Green stupidity coupled with people wasting their time.

From Financial Times: "One of Europe's largest manufacturers of ammunition is facing a roadblock to the planned expansion of its largest factory because a new data centre for TikTok is using up all the spare electricity in the area."

I find it hard to believe that one facility would exhaust the capability of the power company especially a data center.

Data centers are the biggest hogs in the power business. We have modest sized office buildings using megawatts of power where normal offices use kilowatts. We have one using a dedicated transformer and feeder circuit going thru 10+ megawatts at any time. We have towns using less in the summer.

"Bitcoin mining uses around as much energy as Argentina, according to the Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index, and at that annualized level of 131.26 terawatt-hours, crypto mining would be in the top 30 of countries based on energy consumption. "

Norway is #29 in the list of electricity consumption by country.

Nammos Norwegian plant is in a 'city with the size of 8000 inhabitants.
And they can blame our own government who also are part owners in all the power companies.
Power companies are mostly concerned with exporting all our power, after out politicians signed off all the rights to control our own energy, that's why our energy prices rose with 700% in a year.
Norway energy is now controlled from Brussels, in a office that belongs to a EU organization, and Norway is not even members of the EU.
Our politicians is constantly trying to get Norway into EU, and the people voted NO 2 times already.
We are the second in all of Europe to add EU directives to our laws, but we are not members.
That way our politicians gets EU positions etc after they end they're carreer, and do good in the eyes of the WEF where most of them are active members.

Once upon time we could actually remove candidates from lists etc during elections.
Even that they have shielded themselves from, so you can't get rid of corrupt and bad politicians.
And of course they can lie, cheat, and even evade taxes with intent and not get punished for it.
Enough that the prime ministers office uses they're attorneys, to shield politicians and work against the Tax regulations to get them benefits.

And yes datacenters actually use a lot of power. And the power companies don't build much if they don't see the profit from it, even though they are owned by the government. it is quite common to get the reply, nope sorry you can't build there because the power grid does not have capacity.
And even better all expansions of the grid is done by, adding to they're customers bills.

They built a lot of datacenters in Norway recently, but the prices for power increased by such a huge amount it can hardly be profitable anymore, anyways.

This is what happens when you let politicians run wild with no accountability whatsoever.

They also can easily catch fire due to the high power and temperatures if the cooling systems fail.

Easily? Every data center I've worked in, dozens of them, had significant fire suppression systems. They're often Dry Pipe, FM200 or 1230. No one wants hundreds of millions of dollars of equipment burning up. I've even been in one when equipment arc flashed.

An aluminum smelter would use some juice but compooter storage sure doesn’t. They make up the craziest stuff. LOL.
You should see the server farms that run these things. The entire roof is cooling fans and heat exchangers. The numbers here actually make perfect sense.

What’s a real red flag to me is a Chinese company that is at the beck and call of the Chinese government, has disrupted western ammo production close to one of Chinas most offensive allies - Russia.

Yes, that's why those systems are there. One blade overheading is very difficult to detect and can cause a lot of damage, so they invest in high end FPS. This keeps the incidents contained and minimal. But, they wouldn't pay for them if it wasn't proven they are needed.

One blade overheading is very difficult to detect and can cause a lot of damage,

One blade ... a blade server? What damage would it cause? The max heat output from it 'overheating' is determined by the power supply's maximum draw, assuming it's all converted to heat.

We have dozens of blades in a rack. Our racks have an average maximum power of 2 x 8kW / rack. One blade (in a rack) overheating is not noticeable and no one but the server owner would care.

Data centers are power hogs due to the cooling and A/C systems involvedto cool the hardware. They also can easily catch fire due to the high power and temperatures if the cooling systems fail.
I saw how they had to upgrade the power infrastructure for the big data centers in eastern Washington
