Norma or Winchester brass for a no turn neck 284?

[/ QUOTE]

Which brass would be the better choice for a no turn neck in a 284 Winchester long range hunting rifle?

I bought some new Winchester brass and the flash holes are not very clea on about half of the brass. Looks like the punch was off center at initial alignment and then punched the hole. Hard to explain. But I’m not happy with it.

Is Norma brass better than Winchester brass? It’s more expensive, but I will spend the money if it’s an improvement over the Winchester brass that I have.

I also know that the Norma brass necks are thicker than the Winchester brass. Would this present any problems or issues?

I’ll have a custom reamer made to accommodate the brass I choose.

On a side note, I will not use Lapua Brass because of potential donut issues. So Norma or Winchester brass are my options.

I would do a simple trick with those off-center primers. A mark on the side closest to the outer ring. And I would always put the hole in the lower part, for a more consistent burn.

I have used Win brass in comp numerous times. The stuff stamped ‘Winchester’ is not as good as the stuff stamped ‘W-W Super’.
Why this is so I don’t know for sure, but think it is made in a different facillity.

In my 300WM, Win brass with all the prep done, CC measured etc is by far stronger than Norma brass. Norma brass runs around 10gr more water than either Lapua or Win brass that I have.
Primer pockets in the Win brass have, and do, last 10-15 loadings longer than Norma brass.
Norma IS good quality, BUT their webs are thin and pockets open prematurely in my experience. I don’t hottod my 300’s but don’t download them by any means either.

The primer pocket issue is the only thing I find dislikeable about Norma brass.

Cheers.
