Norma LR

Not knocking norma at all... I like their center-fire ammo it's normally pretty good.... I just started trying to get back into good form shooting rifle again after taking a break and shooting shotgun in skeet or sporting clays since COVID and in my opinion shooting shotgun just kills rifle and pistol skills.... I took my training rimfire out and shot it to try and get back into the swing of things and completely understand that rimfire and the right rimfire ammo has to be found and put together...

I had a brick of brand X and a few boxes of CCI standard velocity to play with... While shooting I found a box of norma tac in my range bag and decided to try it... I threw it in there for shooting out of my little Glock 44... Brand x which I won't name because some people don't like it but it shoots ok and is cheap and the CCI both shot ok but when I loaded five of the normal tac in that rifle it was absolutely horrible.... I mean all over the place by inches... Normally you will get a POI shift but not just all over the place... High , low , left and right... I understand my rifle just didn't like it and someone else's rifle may love it but mine hated it... I know have 45 norma tac bullets that will be shot at close range outta my Glock 44 and if they are just as bad I will leave 30 in the box at the range for someone to find some free bullets....

OK... Just to prove myself the fool I bought a carton of the Norma Xtreme Long Range and should have it (maybe) by this weekend. I'll post my results. Anyone else feel froggy Goodshootinginc. has it for $20.50 per box. A lot better price than I have seen elsewhere.

I've bought several bricks of a couple of lots of the Norma TAC-22, and even though most of the rifles I've shot it in were barreled by me, using the same EPS reamer, there's a good deal of difference in how well it shoots in four Vudoo repeaters w/Kriegers, a couple of CZ457s with Shilen ratchets, and a Rim-X that wears a Green Mountain bbl that Mike Manzella chambered with an Eachus reamer. Both lots of TAC-22 shoot decently in the bbls with EPS chambers, but they both shoot better in that less-expensive Green Mtn. bbl. I've also bought two lots of Norma Match ammo, and have found it to be similar to the TAC-22, but it does shoot better than TAC in the Shilen & Green Mtn bbls. It's not junk, not by a long shot. But SK Std+ will out-shoot it in any of the custom barrels. So I'm pretty hesitant to pay Eley Tenex prices for Norma's new LR Match.

As most shooters know, the Norma 22RF ammo is re-branded RWS, and since Anschutz North America imports & sells RWS for use in their premium 22RF rifles, I thought I should try TAC-22 & Match in a newer 1712 & an older (made in 1967) Savage-Anschutz 54 sporter. I've found all four lots of TAC & Match shoot pretty good in these two Anschutz rifles - I have a new lot# of SK Rifle Match that shoots better, but I'm thinking of trying some more Norma 22RF ammo in these two rifles. In today's world, where it's pretty hard to find SK/Lapua ammo in case quantities, I'm not adverse to giving Norma/RWS a chance to prove itself in my rifles - especially since I've heard that Norma may be building a new ammo manufacturing facility here in the States.

I bought a few boxes. I want to try it against my best shooting lot of SK Biathlon Sport when I get a good day. In 2020 I shot about fifty 6x5 targets at 300. I have a decent idea of what a good group at that distance is. That’s what it’s marketed for. We shall see.

Looking forward to seeing your results with the new Norma LR Match.
